"Supporting young people aged 11-25 years with their mental health, promoting choice and creativity."

Who We Help, Why We Help & the Difference It Makes

42nd Street supports young people aged 11-25 years with their emotional wellbeing and mental health, promoting choice and creativity. We champion young person centred approaches that demonstrate local impact and have national significance.

We offer a range of individual therapeutic support and encourage and support young people to have a voice, and access opportunities to learn, develop new skills, be creative, have fun and demonstrate to themselves and others that they are able to recover, manage their mental health and wellbeing and achieve their full potential.

We are a Greater Manchester charity. We deliver services at our Manchester city centre base, in community venues, arts and cultural centres, and in schools and colleges to make sure our services are accessible.

What We Do

We offer a range of individual therapeutic support and encourage and support young people to have a voice, and access opportunities to learn, develop new skills, be creative, have fun and demonstrate to themselves and others that they are able to recover, manage their mental health and wellbeing and achieve their full potential.

Thereare lots of ways to get involved at 42nd Street ...

  • Counselling
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • One to One Support
  • Groups and Projects
  • Drop-ins
  • Arts-based activities

Some young people come to 42nd Street to see a Counsellor/Therapist or One to One support worker. Others come to a regular group like the drop-in. Some do both…it’s totally up to you.

Getting involved in a group or project is a great way to meet new people, try something new or hone your creative talents alongside a musician or artist.

Additional Info

We also have a creative venue, The Horsfall, that hosts free public events aimed at improving wellbeing and mental health.

The Horsfall is an exciting new venue and programme of activity building on 42nd Street’s trusted and innovative approach to improving young people’s mental health. We have taken inspiration for the project from the Ancoats Art Museum;
a unique social and artistic experiment established in Ancoats, Manchester at the end of the 19th Century.

All of the services at 42nd Street are free and confidential.

We understand that opening up to someone for the first time can be extremely difficult and for some young people, taking the first step can take time.

Talking to a One to One support worker, Counsellor or Therapist can help you to understand the things that are affecting you and together, you can find positive coping strategies that work for you.

We deliver services at our Manchester city centre base, in community venues, arts and cultural centres, and in schools and colleges to make sure our services are accessible.
