What We Do

Central to our approach is our custom‑designed premise: a large open centre created with the diverse needs of our members in mind. The Ness Centre has a mix of open‑plan space for group activity and smaller, more intimate rooms for those in need of peace and quiet; a beach style cafe; areas to accommodate visiting services such as hairdressers and chiropodists; and a sunny outdoor area for fresh air, barbecues and activities such as gardening. Offering comfort, security, therapy, nourishment, entertainment, privacy and opportunity for socialisation, our centres are truly welcoming spaces where members may spend as little or as much time as they like.

The Day Club

Individuals can come to the centre for the day or the half day and enjoy a variety of activities including Cognitive Stimulation Therapy, Tai-Chi, animal therapy, music and dance all designed to slow cognitive deterioration and help with challenging symptoms. We run Monday to Friday and all the activities are designed to encourage social interaction and keep body & mind active. Our mission is to maintain independence, improve quality of life and manage the symptoms of dementia. A healthy, home‑cooked meal is served at lunchtime, and tea and refreshments are available throughout the day. There is also access to visiting hairdressers, chiropodists and other local services.

Cost - For members • £65 per day (this may increase if the client care needs increase) • £35 for a half day (3 hours) (there can be funding through social services but this would need to be assessed through them). We will endeavor to ensure no-one is stopped from coming to the centre due to transport. Please contact us by emailing [email protected], or call 01626 774 799 to sign up. Or visit our website www.atlas.care or facebook Atlas Respite and Therapy.

Home Enablement

We also have an outstanding team of home enablers that bring all we have learnt in our well being Hub to your home, working 1:1 with individuals and offering respite to families.  Everything we do is about maintaining an individuals health and cognitive ability and supporting the family to remain resilient.

Family Support

Equally important for us is the support we offer families.  By booking your loved one into the centre for a day or two you get essential time for respite and to re-charge your batteries allowing you to continue to care for the individual with dementia. By doing this we allow you time to return to work, do the shopping or just take a rest and recover from the strain of being a principle carer.

We also run a resilience carers course, connecting you with others in a similar situation and teaching tips on coping and managing some of the symptoms associated with the illness.

Innovation

We offer a new way of tackling an age‑old problem, working for the future as well as today. Through collaboration with leading institutes and academic bodies, and the application of cutting‑edge technology, The Ness Centre stands at the very forefront of dementia research. One organisation we're proud to work closely with is the Ageing & Dementia Research Centre at Bournemouth University ‑ co‑formulator of our range of treatments and constant assessor of our services, to ensure members receive the highest quality care.

At the centre, we also use the latest in assistive dementia technology, enabling greater creative freedom for members, and technology to promote transparency between staff, members and families. We're currently developing a specialist portal, for example, that records and shares everything from a member's personal interests to their daily wellbeing and nutritional intake. We also encourage members to use a wide range of iPad applications, virtual reality and targeted video games.

First‑time visitors

If you're interested in visiting our centre, we offer a free one‑daypass to enable prospective members to experience our centre and services. During this first visit you will be assigned a principle coordinator and take part in the activities.  we will try to tailor the day according to individual wishes or requirements.
