Momentum Children's Charity

"Supporting children with cancer & life-challenging conditions, and their families"

Who We Help, Why We Help & the Difference It Makes

Working locally in Surrey, South West London and West Sussex, we support families whose children have cancer or a life-challenging condition.

We know that we make an enormous difference to the families we support...because they tell us.

What We Do

We work in the catchment areas of several local hospitals where children in SW London, Surrey and West Sussex will receive care for their cancer or other life-challenging condition:

The local hospitals will refer your child/family directly to us, so that we can assess how we will be able to support you throughout your child’s treatment and beyond.

If you wish to self-refer, you may do so by contacting us to discuss your needs. Please call 020 8974 5931 ask for the family support team.

When Your Child is Diagnosed

When your child is diagnosed with cancer, or another life threatening condition, as a parent you feel utterly helpless and isolated. The lives of everyone in your family are turned upside down. Everything seems uncertain and unknown. Some people describe this time as like visiting a foreign country where you don’t know anyone and you don’t know the language. Friends offer their help but you don’t know what you need.

During the first week or two, children are often kept in hospital for a period of time to start their chemotherapy protocol ,or for more tests. Parents have a great deal of new medical information and treatment plans to understand and there are always doctors and nurses on hand to help. Leaving the hospital to care for your child at home, can feel quite daunting.

At Momentum, we aim to contact a family as they arrive home from the hospital.

We start with a telephone conversation, and then organise one of our Family Support Workers to visit to you either at home or in the hospital. All families are different and we want to understand your family situation and talk to you about how we can best help you during the journey ahead.

We believe that no family should have to cope alone, and we are here for your family every step of the way.

We work with each family to understand their needs and offer them support and services that are personally tailored. Please click on the links to see more details

Volunteer

Volunteer

We are always keen to hear from new volunteers, who may be able to offer their time to us. Some of the ways in which we may ask you to help include:

  • Volunteering at a fundraising event – manning the stand, collecting money, selling merchandise
  • Assisting in our Kingston office – helping with mail-outs, stock, pricing of merchandise
  • Delivering items to local fundraisers and businesses
  • Leaflet and poster drops – helping us to raise awareness in the local area
  • Organising local fundraising events to raise money for Momentum
  • Helping to source raffle and auction prizes

Please contact us if you are interested in being added to our Volunteer List. This means you will be notified of volunteering opportunities and dates, via email, and you can put yourself forward as often or as little as you have time.

Fundraising

Get involved in our various fundraising events

We're here to help make your fundraising a huge success! We can provide you with toolkits to help with your planning, and materials to use on the day of your fundraiser.

Make us Your School Charity of The Year

Whatever the age group, there are so many ways that local nurseries, schools and colleges can raise money for us. Fundraising at school is great fun and pupils will also enjoy knowing they are making a real difference to the lives of local families whose children are seriously ill.

Donate Toys

We are always delighted to receive donations of new toys for the hospitals where we work, and the children we support. We kindly ask you though to contact us first on info@moment-um.org to discuss our current needs.
