Who We Help, Why We Help & the Difference It Makes

Common Wheel supports people with mental illness by providing meaningful activities.

Our vision is that people with mental illness in Glasgow are able to live a meaningful and satisfying life and contribute to society.

Our music and art activities and our main office are at Campbell House in the grounds of Gartnavel Royal Hospital (see map). We have bike workshops in Maryhill and Bridgeton, and also run courses in Pollokshields. Our climbing project is based in Maryhill.

What We Do

Common Wheel supports people with mental illness by providing meaningful activities. We have four projects.

Our bike project supports people in repairing and recycling old bikes into 'good as new' bikes for our clients to ride away and keep (Build Your Own Bike courses). We have bike workshops in Maryhill and Bridgeton and also run courses in Pollokshields. After completing the course, a few people stay with us as volunteers, and continue to enjoy the activity while also helping with repairing and rebuilding bikes for our customers.

Our music project supports people in singing, playing and composing music.

Our visual arts project 'Carnival Club' supports people in designing and producing large scale art pieces to be displayed in various parades in Glasgow.

Our new climbing project started in August 2019. We are running this in partnership with The Climbing Academy and are very grateful for their support.

Our projects aim to improve mental wellbeing, and support people in learning new skills.

If you would like to take part in any of our activities, you need to be referred by your mental health professional or support worker.
