Win on Waste
"To enhance the lives of people in Dorset, running projects to benefit the environment & local people"
Win on Waste has been helping people in the BCP and Dorset Council areas get smart with their waste and recycling since 2013. In the early days we were known as Ideas2Action and our first session at Canford Heath collected just 2 items of common, yet hard-to-recycle waste.
Within three months, that first session had had grown to collecting 6 items and had received 5000 items which would have either gone into landfill or been collected in kerbside recycling.
From 2014, the network of Win on Waste sessions grew to 17 sessions on a monthly basis, collecting a wide range of items and either responsibly recycling them in aid of our charity, or diverting items to worthwhile causes in our local area. We are still in a period of Covid recovery, so our network currently stands at 9 monthly sessions across East Dorset, but we are building back all the time and hoping to reach 10 established sessions this year.
From November 2019-March 2020, we collected over 3500 bags of waste and projected that would have risen to nearly 10,000 bag by the end of the year, if not for Covid-19.
In 2022 we collected over 3 tonnes of hard-to-recycle waste, passing it on to good causes, and welcomed over 4000 households to our service.
We were able to run covid-safe collection sessions from June 2021, and now have nine sessions running each month over Dorset and BCP Council areas - including Wimborne, Hamworthy, Kinson and Christchurch.
We can accept a wide range of hard-to-recycle items at our sessions, including crisp packets, Pringles tubes and dental waste. We then turn this waste into charitable donations to support ourselves and other local charities.
Are you passionate about helping the environment and looking for an opportunity at the heart of your community? Then why not volunteer with Win on Waste?
Win on Waste has an established network of waste collection sessions where we provide a convenient, single location to responsibly dispose of a wide range of hard-to-recycle waste – and all of this waste helps local and national good causes!
Our sessions are looking for volunteers for only two or three hours per month to turn their passion for the environment into united community action.
This role involves:
· Greeting our donors and helping them sort their donated waste
· Weighing and packing the collected waste at the end of the session
· Answering any questions on the items we collect and where they go – we will help you with this!
· Any other tasks outlined by the session Ambassador
· Your ideas! Although we have been doing this work for a long time, this doesn’t mean we can’t improve – your ideas on how we can do better are invaluable to us!
