Who We Help, Why We Help & the Difference It Makes

Please help support the work of the Friends of Chelsea Children's Hospital School (Charity No 1060218).

Our school charity helps support our extended school year holiday and after-school programme of fun events, activities and outings for chronically ill children and young people admitted to Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, The Royal Brompton Hospital, St. Mary's Hospital, Collingham Child and Family Unit, The Lavender Walk Adolescent Mental Health unit, and pupils in the community who are unable to attend school due to medical/mental health needs. The impact of the school has consistently been recognised by Ofsted as Outstanding.

What We Do

Hospital education provides children and young people with continuity, reassurance and normality, and the ability to maintain and progress their learning whilst in hospital and on discharge.  FCCHS works to support the school in developing a 50-week school year holiday programme of activities, arts and music for children in hospital, whilst also helping to develop information technology systems and infrastructure to facilitate learning from the bedside for those pupils/patients on the wards who are unable to access our schoolrooms.

Volunteer

The School's Friends charity  (FCCHS) helps raise crucial funds for its vital work. We urgently need volunteers to assist with our regular fundraising activities. If you can spare 2-3 hours each week it would make a big difference.

Duties (what you will be doing):

  • Helping set-up and run our weekly Tuesday table-top sale at C&W
  • Supporting the Marketing and Communications Manager with fundraising projects, marketing and campaigns
  • Helping with social media posts
  • Distributing promotional material to local businesses to raise awareness of the school charity
  • Some office administrative tasks and activities

If you have particular skills and experience in charity work, business management,  social media or marketing then we can look at additional opportunities that utilise those skills.

Time commitment:

  • Volunteering ‘shifts’ of 2-3 hours are available from 9.30 am to 5 pm (Mon-Fri)
  • Volunteers are expected to commit to at least one regular shift of 2 to 3 hours per week for a period of not less than 3 - 6 months  - a longer commitment is always welcome.

Location:

Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, 369 Fulham Rd, London, SW10 9NH

It is possible to perform some of this role remotely online, although there will also be weekly (Tuesday) table-top sales at the Chelsea Hospital School site.
