Food in Community

"Nutritious, sustainably produced surplus food, community meals & cooking workshops since 2012."

Who We Help, Why We Help & the Difference It Makes

Food in Community supply the tastiest, most nutritious, sustainably produced food to people who are in crisis or are vulnerable. We deliver food directly to households in Totnes and district as part of our food banking service. We also supply charities with fresh organic produce across South Devon.

In our eleventh year, our volunteer team collect surplus and donated ethically produced food from local farmer's fields (called gleaning), producers and wholesalers, then in collaboration with local charities and councils, we make and deliver fresh food boxes, recipe boxes and vouchers to households in need. We work with social prescribing and local charities to prioritize placements for disadvantaged volunteers.

Come and eat with us at our community pay what you feel lunch cafes, with an Observer Food Monthly Best Ethical Food Project runner up award voted by our customers.  An exciting menu where you pay what you can afford, always with vegan and gluten free options, live music, affordable organic teas and coffees with added suspended coffee scheme, home made cake. Our Totnes cafes are held on the FIRST Saturday of the month at Totnes United Free Church, Fore St, Totnes, we lunch served 12-2. We also run a community event catering service.

Learn with us, Social Enterprise UK’s Transformative Community Business of the Year, how to set up and run a food waste project in your area, how to reduce food waste and make the most of the food you buy.

We are advocates, offering those who are food insecure a space to speak out and get involved, and a member of the Independent Food Aid Network, working to end food insecurity and filling the gap until that happens by providing emergency food in the meantime.
