Community Building
Hamstead Marshall Village Hall
"Providing a green and safe space for community events"
Hamstead Marshall Village Hall started out as a village school in 1870. In 1935, the building was made over in trust to the village as a hall. Today, the hall maintains its function as a community building and asset, where people gather and organise events.
Prior to March 2020, many functions were held on a regular basis by community groups and the Village Hall Committee worked very hard to build up a strong customer base. From March 2020 until the summer of 2021, the hall remained closed due its customer due to the CoVid19 pandemic. However, the hall was used as a weekly collection hub for bread, eggs, newspapers and other items. Volunteers came forward to run the hub, ensuring that people did not suffer hardship.
The Hamstead Marshall Community Cafe operates at the village hall on the last Thursday of each month, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm.
The Village Hall Committee maintained its repair and maintenance schedule throughout the lockdown; always ensuring that CoVid10 regulations were in force.
Since the late summer of 2021 events have and are, being held in the village hall. On September 23rd, 2021, the Hamstead Marshall Wildlife Group held its first meeting in the hall which attracted thirty one people.
Various community groups use the hall on a regular basis, from Pilates to friendship groups. Community groups are locally rooted and have broad community impact. For example, the monthly market first held on September 16th, 2006 is held on the second Saturday every month. From its inception there was and remains a firm focus on craft foods including jams and chutneys, organically sourced eggs, locally sourced bread and home baked cakes and savouries.
The Hamstead Marshall Parish Council holds it's bi-monthly meetings in the hall.
Bookings for private parties are available in accordance with CoVid19 regulations.
The village hall is managed by the Hamstead Marshall Village Hall Charity (charity number 1026745). There are five trustees which include the chairman, financial officer and secretary. A parish councillor attends the meetings as a Parish Council representative.
In recent weeks, group of volunteers have started a Parish Café which is free to all. The café operates from the months of April, through to December
The trustees have wide business and professional experiences and helping others together with a willingness to share, is a central pillar of their ethos. They welcome enquiries from community organisations or groups who are thinking of setting up a community hall or hub.
