Who We Help, Why We Help & the Difference It Makes

The Spear Programme helps 16-to-24-year-olds facing barriers getting into work or education. We know that young people have huge potential; we’re helping to change what they believe about themselves by equipping them with confidence, motivation and the vital skills they need to succeed in long-term employment.

What We Do

  • We offer a 6-week training programme covering both practical skills-building and mindset coaching.
  • This programme is made up of group sessions and a 1-1 with a trained coach every week.
  • Our practical training involves CV assistance, professional communication training (both written and verbal) and mock interview practise with an external professional.
  • The 6-week programme is followed by a year of support for each candidate to help them find a job and succeed in work.

Volunteer

  • Mock interviewers - we are always looking for professionals (acting or retired) to support with our mock interview day. This involves interviewing a young person 1-1 and giving them verbal feedback. We provide a question sheet and trainee information.
  • Companies to offer our trainees work experience or a 'company visit' where they can come and observe a working context.
  • People to observe our sessions and give trainees feedback on their presentation skills.
