"We bring vulnerable people together through Household and Houseshare schemes"
Established in 2021 as a social enterprise, Two Generations tackles loneliness among older communities through it's national Homeshare service. A Homeshare brings together two people, often from different generations to help the Householder (typically an older person or one living with a disability) to feel safe, gain companionship, and retain independence. The Sharer provides overnight companionship and help with household support, including things like cooking, laundry, light cleaning and gardening.
The Sharer is typically a mature student or key worker and they gain an affordable housing option as this living arrangement is far below average private rental price. Legally, homesharing is covered under the UK Government’s Tenant Fees Act 2019 and can only be provided by charities or social enterprises, not private companies; over 500 Homeshares have been successfully set up since then and we manage Homeshares from Perth to Plymouth, Bristol to Belfast.
We help local councils and charities (eg. Age UK) provide Homeshare services in theor local areas and we're always happy to hear from new partners. There are lots of stories from Homesharers themselves on the Two Generations website , where you can hear Homesharers speaking in national media including Gretta, featured on BBC News or through testimonials shared by families. This is one from the family of a Surrey Householder: "Mum really enjoys having her sharer in the house and has said to me what a charming and considerate person she is. I am delighted my mother and her sharer are getting along so well and wanted to thank you for introducing us to such a wonderful homesharer !”
