Step One Charity
"Step One supports the mental health and wellbeing of people across Devon."
Established
in 1937, Step One is a registered charity with over 87 years' experience
supporting people across Devon facing challenges with their mental health,
learning disabilities and neurodiversity. We take a holistic approach, looking
at the person as a whole and exploring the wider factors that could be
affecting their mental health, their ability to work, or opportunities to be
part of their community.
Our
comprehensive range of mental health and wellbeing services support people in
building a pathway to independence, living a fulfilling life and reaching their
own potential. These services include:
Motivated by seeing people
progress, Step One makes a real difference in the lives of up to 800 people per
year. Learn more about our impact here.
Our BeWell@StepOne programme is a self-referral support service for adults in Devon. The aim of the service is to reduce the pressure on our NHS and help individuals to manage their own mental health and support others in their communities.
Support for individuals:
We provide group-based support to as many people as possible across the county through our online and in-person courses, peer support groups, activities and learning opportunities.
All of our sessions are free and run by professional, qualified, and supportive wellbeing practitioners with lived experience of mental health conditions.
Examples of areas where we can help include:
“This time last year I was really low with stress, anxiety and depression but with support from here [men’s walking group] and some other professional help, I am in a much better place.”
Support for businesses:
Through our BeWell@StepOne service we also offer training and support for businesses. We can provide a variety of mental health training and awareness sessions to support employees and employers in spotting the signs of mental illness within their organisations. If you are interested in learning more, please reach out to us at [email protected].
BeWell@StepOne relies on the kindness of volunteers to expand our service and provide vital peer-to-peer support for people in our community to manage their mental health and wellbeing. Here's how you could help:
No matter your experience, we offer various opportunities to get involved. If you'd like to join our supportive community and make a positive difference to the lives of local people, contact us today to learn more about our volunteering opportunities: [email protected].
