DESCRIPTION:Children’s Book Week is an annual celebration of reading for pleasure for children of primary school age. A fantastic opportunity for extended teaching on any of your favourite children’s books! This year\, 2024\, marks the 100th Anniversary of Children’s Book Week and the theme is “How Do You Book?”. \nWhen is Children’s Book Week?\nThere are technically no set dates for Children’s Book Week\, meaning you’re free to celebrate this whenever suits you! However\, in the UK\, this year the event takes place over two weeks: the 6th to 12th of May and the 4th to 10th of November. Join in the celebrations with our friends across the pond\, or tie in your Children’s Book Week celebrations around World Book Day. \nWhen did Children’s Book Week start?\nThe idea for this event was conceived by Franklin K. Matthiews\, the librarian of the Boy Scouts of America\, in 1913. He thought that a celebration of children’s books would help get more children into reading\, helped by the backing of publishers\, booksellers and librarians in the US. Now going on for over 100 years\, Children’s Book Week continues to grow in popularity year on year. \nHow can I get involved with Children’s Book Week?\nSimple. Get reading!
