SUMMARY:National Stress Awareness Day
DESCRIPTION:National Stress Awareness Day\, on every first Wednesday in November — November 5th this year — is 24 hours of reinforcing the fact that you’re not doing yourself a favour by stressing about situations you can’t control. In fact\, according to science\, chronic stress leads to impaired cognitive and physiological functions. Would you want to age before your time? Absolutely not! On this day\, let’s learn together to hone our ability to choose one thought over another and let the stress ebb away. \nBut it’s not just about one day. Stress management and reduction should be a constant practice so you can completely remove stress from your life. While we don’t really get enough time to think about it any other day\, use this day to find out where and why you get most of your stress from. Is it from your workplace or family\, or have you got a general habit to worry about little things? Find the stressful areas and plan a course of action to solve them. \nWays to deal with stress include: \n\nBreathing exercises\nPractising mindfulness\nGetting a good night’s sleep\nWriting down the things that make you stressed\n\nSource: NHS \n  \nFind out more from: \nInternational Stress Management Association: https://isma.org.uk/ \nStress Management Society: https://www.stress.org.uk/

SUMMARY:Remembrance Day
DESCRIPTION:Remembrance Day is a solemn observance in the UK that remembers the sacrifice of those who fought and died in World War I and in other wars. It is observed on 11 November each year to commemorate the Armistice that ended the First World War. \nThe main thing people do is to observe two minutes of silence at 11am in honour of the sacrifice made by so many. There are also parades\, memorial services and church services On a national level\, Remembrance Day is observed through a ceremony on Whitehall Road in London. \nIt is traditional to wear poppies on Remembrance Day. Today\, most wear plastic ones instead of real ones\, and these can be purchased for a donation to the Royal British Legion’s annual Poppy Appeal. \nAll British Commonwealth countries also observe Remembrance Day. The holiday is sometimes also called Armistice Day or Poppy Day. \nRemembrance Sunday in the UK is always held on the second Sunday in November each year. \n  \nSource:  Remembrance Day 2023\, 2024 and 2025 – PublicHolidays.co.uk

SUMMARY:World Kindness Day
DESCRIPTION:World Kindness Day is an international holiday that was formed in 1998\, to promote #Kindness throughout the world and is observed annually on November 13 as part of the World Kindness Movement. It is observed in many countries including the United States\, Canada\, Japan\, Australia and the U.A.E. \n#WorldKindnessDay presents us with the opportunity to reflect upon one of the most important and unifying human principles. On a day devoted to the positive potential of both large and small acts of kindness\, try to promote and diffuse this crucial quality that brings people of every kind together. \nThe purpose of World Kindness Day as outlined by the World Kindness Movement is “to highlight good deeds in the community focusing on the positive power and the common thread of kindness which binds us.” Since its creation more than two decades ago\, the day has achieved truly global notice; events associated with the day have attracted participants from every inhabited continent. These have included activities such as concerts\, dance mobs\, and the distribution of “kindness cards.” \nThe objective of World Kindness Day is to spread kindness with small gestures. The main tradition of the day is to be kind and to try and encourage kindness to prevail over hatred. Whether it’s helping out someone with chores\, taking the time out to ask how someone is doing\, or complimenting someone\, the name of the game is kindness\, and we all have it in us. \nSource:  World Kindness Day 2022. SUMMARY:Carers Rights Day
DESCRIPTION:This year\, Carers Rights Day is on Thursday 20 November and the theme is ‘Know your rights\, use your rights.’ \nEvery day\, 12\,000 people become unpaid carers for a partner\, family member or a friend – many of whom don’t see themselves as carers\, often unaware of their legal rights and what they’re entitled to in terms of support and benefits. \nCarers should not have to miss out on support designed to reduce some of the pressures caring can bring. Whether they care 24/7 or juggle care with work and family life\, are new to caring or have been for many years\, and wherever they live in the UK – all carers deserve to understand their rights and be supported to use them if they wish. \nGet involved in Carers Rights Day and help carers in your network and local community know about their rights and the wider support available. \nAs a carer\, knowing your rights empowers you with information about what you’re entitled to. This helps you feel confident asking for what you need\, as well as challenging things when your rights are not being met – whether that be in the workplace or education\, in accessing health or social care\, or when interacting with other professionals or at home. \n#CarersRights #RecogniseYourRights #CarersSupport \n*Source: Carers Rights Day | Carers UK \n  \n\nAs always\, please check on aDoddle as help and support\, opportunities to volunteer or connect with others can often be found through local community organisations. \nPS – If you are a local community organisation and haven’t already added your details to aDoddle – please do\, it is totally free.

SUMMARY:Transgender Day of Remembrance
DESCRIPTION:Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) was started in 1999 by transgender advocate Gwendolyn Ann Smith as a vigil to honour the memory of Rita Hester\, a transgender woman who was killed in 1998. The vigil commemorated all the transgender people lost to violence since Rita Hester’s death\, and began an important tradition that has become the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance. \n“Transgender Day of Remembrance seeks to highlight the losses we face due to anti-transgender bigotry and violence. I am no stranger to the need to fight for our rights\, and the right to simply exist is first and foremost. With so many seeking to erase transgender people — sometimes in the most brutal ways possible — it is vitally important that those we lose are remembered\, and that we continue to fight for justice.”- Transgender Day of Remembrance founder Gwendolyn Ann Smith \nSource: Glaad \n  \nFind Out More: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transgender_Day_of_Remembrance

SUMMARY:White Ribbon Day
DESCRIPTION:White Ribbon Day sees the start of 16 Days of Action against domestic and sexual violence. \nWhite Ribbon is a campaign led by men\, aimed at putting an end to male violence against women. Men across the globe raise awareness and show their support for the campaign by wearing a white ribbon. \n1 in 4 women will be a victim to sexual assault or attempted assault in their lifetimes. (National Audit Office\, 2025) \nCulture change doesn’t happen overnight\, but we can end men’s violence against women and girls in our lifetimes. \nThis years theme is #WeSpeakUp. Letting sexism slide puts women and girls at risk. Sexist jokes\, catcalling\, staring\, and comments might seem harmless\, but they are serious because they can lead to violence and abuse.\nThis White Ribbon Day\, we want more men to use their voices and speak up to create a world where everyone is safe\, equal and respected. \nEvery time we ignore something that doesn’t feel right\, we miss a chance to set a better example. \nViolence experienced by women and girls takes many forms. Some behaviours and words may seem ‘harmless’ but normalising them ignores the short- and long-term effects on women and can lead to more extreme violence. \n#WhiteRibbonDay #NoExcuseForAbuse #WeSpeakUp \nFind out more about White Ribbon Day: https://www.whiteribbon.org.uk/
