SUMMARY:International Volunteer Day
DESCRIPTION:Today is International Volunteer Day – A day to promote volunteerism\, encourage more people to consider volunteering\, and encourage governments to support volunteering efforts. \nVolunteers are the glue that holds together many charitable organisations. Without their efforts\, many charities would struggle to make the vital impact that helps so many people to live their lives every day. \nTheme of the day 2025\nInternational Volunteer Day theme is “Solidarity through volunteering.” The theme aims to gather all people to volunteer work for social and economic development and to change people’s mindsets to build a better world. This time is not to stand alone\, but we must stand with each other to work together. We must act together for the future of our planet and start acting upon this idea right now before it becomes too late because sustainable human development and a spirit of equity underpin all interactions in this world. \nWe’d love to hear your volunteering stories\, leave a comment on our Facebook\, Twitter\, or Instagram pages to share them with us. \n  \nSource: https://www.un.org/en/observances/volunteer-day

SUMMARY:Human Rights Day
DESCRIPTION:Human Rights Day is observed by the international community every year on 10 December. It commemorates the day in 1948 the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. \nThe formal inception of Human Rights Day dates from 1950\, after the Assembly passed resolution 423 (V) inviting all States and interested organizations to adopt 10 December of each year as Human Rights Day. \nWhen the General Assembly adopted the Declaration\, it was proclaimed as a “common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations”\, towards which individuals and societies should “strive by progressive measures\, national and international\, to secure their universal and effective recognition and observance”. \nThe Universal Declaration of Human Rights sets out a broad range of fundamental rights and freedoms to which all of us are entitled. It guarantees the rights of every individual everywhere\, without distinction based on nationality\, place of residence\, gender\, national or ethnic origin\, religion\, language\, or any other status. \nAlthough the Declaration is not a binding document\, it inspired more than 60 human rights instruments which together constitute an international standard of human rights. Today the general consent of all United Nations Member States on the basic Human Rights laid down in the Declaration makes it even stronger and emphasizes the relevance of Human Rights in our daily lives. \nThe High Commissioner for Human Rights\, as the main United Nations rights official\, and the Office of the High Commissioner play a major role in coordinating efforts for the yearly observation of Human Rights Day. \n  \n#HujmanRightsDay #HumanRights \nSource: OHCHR

SUMMARY:International Animal Rights Day
DESCRIPTION:International Animal Rights Day is celebrated on December 10th every year globally\, for the rights and welfare of animals. \nThe day seeks people to address the rights of animals\, both domestic and wild. The day is celebrated to pay tribute to and advocate animal rights. \nOn this day\, animal lovers can encourage their friends\, family\, relatives\, or communities to provide a voice for animal rights. They deserve our respect\, love\, and fair treatment. Whether a parent\, teacher\, grandparent or friend\, those who have an influence on children can take this time to teach them how to value and respect the animals in the world. Perhaps use International Animal Rights Day as a motivator to talk about #Conservation\, learn about animals that are on endangered or at-risk species lists\, and practice ways to be more kind to the animals and the environment. \n#AnimalRights #InternationalAnimalRightsDay \n  \nSource:  http://internationalanimalrightsday.org/

SUMMARY:International Migrants Day
DESCRIPTION:As we observe International Migrants Day on December 18th\, we reflect upon the challenges and difficulties faced by over 272 million migrants courageously building new lives in every corner of the world. The reality of migration is more than just starting over. \nMigrants travel in search of security and opportunities that will allow them to reinvent themselves. Others are escaping from discrimination and prejudice. Host societies need to evolve and welcome these communities for a better tomorrow. \nThis past year\, we saw record levels of internal displacement\, rising humanitarian needs across ongoing and new crises\, and\, tragically\, the highest-ever death toll of migrants in transit. Yet\, alongside these challenges\, are stories of resilience\, progress and hope. Where safe and well-managed migration holds extraordinary potential. Migrants play critical roles in labour markets\, filling skills gaps\, driving innovation and entrepreneurship\, and addressing demographic challenges in aging societies. Migrants boost economic growth and provide a lifeline to families and communities back home\, driving development. \nThe evidence is overwhelming that when migration is managed safely and strategically\, it can be a powerful force for good. By supporting regular pathways for migration\, we can enable opportunities for migrants\, better protect their rights\, and contribute to greater prosperity in the countries migrants come from and those that host them. \nTogether\, one step at a time\, we can continue building a world where migration is safe\, orderly\, and beneficial – for everyone. \n#MigrantsDay #InternationalMigrantsDay #Refugees \nSource:  https://www.un.org/en/observances/migrants-day \n

SUMMARY:Holocaust Memorial Day
DESCRIPTION:Holocaust Memorial Day (#HMD) takes place on 27 January each year and is a time to remember the millions of people murdered during the Holocaust\, under Nazi Persecution and in the genocides which followed in Cambodia\, Rwanda\, Bosnia and Darfur.\n\n\n \n\n\nHolocaust Memorial Day is a time when we seek to learn the lessons of the past and recognise that genocide does not just take place on its own – it’s a steady process which can begin if discrimination\, racism and hatred are not checked and prevented. We’re fortunate here in the UK; we are not at immediate risk of genocide. However\, discrimination has not ended\, nor has the use of the language of hatred or exclusion. There is still much to do to create a safer future and HMD is an opportunity to start this process.\n\n\n \n\n\nThe aims of HMD are laid out in the statement of commitment. HMD activity organisers bring together the diverse strands of their communities to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day in their neighbourhoods. This is a real demonstration of how the lessons of the past can inform our lives today and ensure that everyone works together to create a safer\, better future.\n\n\n \n\n\nEach year thousands of activities take place for HMD\, bringing people from all backgrounds together to learn lessons from the past in creative\, reflective and inspiring ways. From schools to libraries\, workplaces to local authorities\, HMD activities offer a real opportunity to honour the experiences of people affected by the Holocaust and genocide\, and challenge ourselves to work for a safer\, better future.\n\n\n \n\n\n#HolocaustMemorialDay #HumanRights #History #OnThisDay #HMD2026\n\n\n \n\n\nSource:  Holocaust Memorial Day Trust | What is Holocaust Memorial Day?

SUMMARY:World Cancer Day
DESCRIPTION:World Cancer Day is held every year on the 4th of February\, and it aims to raise international awareness concerning all types of cancer\, those who suffer from it\, and prevention and treatment. \nCreated in 2000\, World Cancer Day has grown into a positive movement for everyone\, everywhere to unite under one voice to face one of our greatest challenges in history. \nEach year\, hundreds of activities and events take place around the world\, gathering communities\, organisations and individuals in schools\, businesses\, hospitals\, marketplaces\, parks\, community halls\, places of worship – in the streets and online – acting as a powerful reminder that we all have a role to play in reducing the global impact of cancer. \nThe World Cancer Day theme 2025-2027\, “United by Unique” places people at the centre of care and explores new ways of making a difference.    \nCancer is more than just a medical diagnosis—it’s a deeply personal matter. Behind every diagnosis lies a unique human story – stories of grief\, pain\, healing\, resilience\, love and more.  \nThat’s why a people-centred approach to cancer care that fully integrates each individual’s unique needs\, with compassion and empathy\, leads to the best health outcomes.  \nEvery experience with cancer is unique and it will take all of us\, united\, to create a world where we look beyond the disease and see the person before the patient. A world where the needs of people and communities are at the centre of health systems. \n#WorldCancerDay #UnitedByUnique #CancerAwareness #CancerResearch #CancerCare \nSource: https://www.worldcancerday.org/about-us  \n

SUMMARY:International Day of Women and Girls in Science
DESCRIPTION:Today the 11th February marks the International Day of Women and Girls in Science! \nThis day was established in order to achieve full and equal access to and participation in\, science for women and girls\, and further achieve gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. \nDid you know?\n\nWomen are typically given smaller research grants than their male colleagues and\, while they represent 33.3% of all researchers\, only 12% of members of national science academies are women.\nIn cutting edge fields such as artificial intelligence\, only one in five professionals (22%) is a woman.\nDespite a shortage of skills in most of the technological fields driving the Fourth Industrial Revolution\, women still account for only 28% of engineering graduates and 40% of graduates in computer science and informatics\nFemale researchers tend to have shorter\, less well-paid careers. Their work is underrepresented in high-profile journals and they are often passed over for promotions.\n\nSource: https://www.un.org/en/observances/women-and-girls-in-science-day

It is observed every February to celebrate language and encourage the learning of multiple languages and the maintenance of mother languages\, especially those that are endangered. \nThis year’s International Mother Language Day highlights the role of young people in shaping the future of multilingual education. Youth voices on multilingual education emphasizes that language is more than a means of communication: it is central to identity\, learning\, well-being and participation in society. The celebration underscores the importance of education systems that recognise and value every learner’s language to support inclusion and learning outcomes. \nAhead of International Mother Language Day\, schools worldwide are invited to join the online UNESCO Campus event on 13 February. Students aged 13–18 can participate\, engage via chat\, and exchange with international experts and peers from all UNESCO regions. The event offers a space for young people to share experiences and identify concrete actions to promote linguistic diversity in their schools and communities. \n#Multilingual and multicultural societies exist through their languages which transmit and preserve traditional knowledge and cultures in a sustainable way. \n  \nSource:  International Mother Language Day | UNESCO \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Stand Up to Bullying Day
DESCRIPTION:Today\, 27th February\, is Stand Up to Bullying Day\, launched in 2016 with the support of HRH The Duke of Cambridge. The day seeks to bring the nation together to take a collective stand against all forms of bullying\, whether in school\, the workplace\, online or elsewhere. Bullying can have lasting effects on a person’s psyche\, and it is important to recognize instances of bullying and put an end to them immediately. \nOne of the main tenets of Stand Up to Bullying Day is calling out others when their actions are unkind. So standing up to bullying isn’t as simple as not being a part of the problem\, what’s imperative is having the courage to call out others. Standing up means being an upstander\, not a bystander. \n#AntiBullying #BeKind #AlwaysBeKind #CyberBullying \n  \nSource: INTERNATIONAL STAND UP TO BULLYING DAY – February 27\, 2026 – National Today \n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:National Endometriosis Awareness Month
DESCRIPTION:National Endometriosis Awareness Month  is observed from 1st March each year.\n\nIt helps to raise awareness about this condition that can be hidden and often unrecognised.\n\n#Endometriosis is a disease that affects women when tissue similar to the lining of the womb grows on the outer part of the uterus instead of inside it. Symptoms include pain\, like dysmenorrhoea\, dyspareunia\, and chronic pelvic or abdominal pain. Endometriosis is known to lead to infertility. The prevalence rate ranges from 25% to 40% for women with subfertility.\n\nNational Endometriosis Awareness Month helps to spread information about endometriosis as a debilitating\, and disabling disease. It recognises the consequences of living with endometriosis for the patient\, care provider\, and all those affected by the disease. This March\, Endometriosis UK are hosting events for political representatives across all 4 nations to raise awareness of endometriosis with those in power. Take action by asking your elected representatives to attend events in March using our easy-to-use form.\n\n\n\n#WomensHealth #Endo #EndoWarrior #Infertility #MenstrualHealth\n\n\nEnding endometriosis starts by saying it | Endometriosis UK (endometriosis-uk.org)

SUMMARY:World Hearing Day
DESCRIPTION:Every year on 3rd March its World Hearing Day\, which exists to raise awareness on how to prevent #Deafness and hearing loss and promote ear and hearing care across the world. \nThis year\, WHD highlights the theme “From communities to classrooms: hearing care for all children.” \nThe campaign focuses on two imperatives: \n\nPreventing avoidable childhood hearing loss\nEnsuring early identification of and care for children with ear or hearing problems\nSchools and communities are natural entry points to reach children\, parents\, and teachers. By integrating hearing care into school health and child health programmes\, we can help children hear\, learn\, and succeed.\n\n\nEar and hearing problems are among the most common problems encountered in the community.\nOver 60% of these can be identified and addressed at the primary level of care.\nIntegration of ear and hearing care into primary care services is possible through training and capacity building at this level.\nSuch integration will benefit people and help countries move towards the goal of universal health coverage.\n\nKey messages: \n\nGlobally\, over 80% of ear and hearing care needs remain unmet.\nUnaddressed hearing loss poses an annual cost of nearly US$1 trillion globally.\nDeeply ingrained societal misperceptions and stigmatizing mindsets are key factors that limit efforts for preventing and addressing hearing loss.\nChanging mindsets related to ear and hearing care is crucial to improving access and mitigating the cost of unaddressed hearing loss.\n\nLet’s make ear and hearing care a reality for all! \n  \nSource: https://worldhearingday.org/

Donate to support the efforts. \nEarth Day was founded in 1970 as a day of education about environmental issues\, and Earth Day 2026 will occur 22nd April. The holiday is now a global celebration that’s sometimes extended into Earth Week\, a full seven days of events focused on green living and confronting the climate crisis. The brainchild of Senator Gaylord Nelson and inspired by the protests of the 1960s\, Earth Day began as a “national teach-in on the environment” and was held on April 22 to maximize the number of students that could be reached in universities. \nWhat Will You Do? \n#InvestInOurPlanet #EarthDay #Sustainability #OurPowerOurPlanet\nSource*: Earth Day 2026 | Theme\, Activities\, Events & Resources \n

SUMMARY:International Dance Day
DESCRIPTION:In 1982 the Dance Committee of ITI founded International Dance Day to be celebrated every year on the 29th April\, the birthday of Jean-Georges Noverre (1727-1810)\, creator of modern ballet. The intention of the International Dance Day Message is to celebrate dance\, revel in the universality of this art form\, cross all political\, cultural and ethnic barriers\, and bring people together with a common language – dance. \nSo put your dancing shoes on and get ready to step out. Dancing is universal — woven into virtually every society all over the world. Humans simply love dance. It brings us together whether we are the ones on the dance floor or are watching the professional performance of others. Dancing is exhilarating and impressive. Let’s honour the world of dance today\, together! \n#InternationalDanceDay #DancingQueen #LoveDance \n  \nSource:  International Dance Day – International Theatre Institute ITI (international-dance-day.org)

SUMMARY:World Asthma Day
DESCRIPTION:In celebration of World Asthma Day 2026\, the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) has chosen the theme “Access to anti-inflammatory inhalers for everyone with asthma – still an urgent need”. GINA emphasizes the need to ensure that people with #Asthma can access inhaled medications that are essential both for controlling the underlying disease and treating attacks. \nAsthma attacks cause great distress for sufferers and their careers\, and these attacks may result in hospital admission and\, in some cases\, death. Inhaled corticosteroid-containing medications prevent asthma attacks by treating the underlying inflammation that causes asthma. \nDoctors and allied health care professionals are called upon to ensure that every person with asthma is prescribed evidence-based\, essential\, inhaled corticosteroid-containing medication in addition to (or in combination with) reliever medication\, to prevent the continuing avoidable morbidity and mortality from asthma. \nAsthma is one of the most common chronic non-communicable diseases that affects over 260 million people and is responsible for over 450\,000 deaths each year worldwide. Most of these deaths are preventable. \nIn low-middle-income countries\, lack of availability or high cost of inhaled medicines\, especially inhaled corticosteroid-containing inhalers\, are major contributors to the fact that 96% of global asthma deaths occur in these countries. \nEven in high income countries\, high costs can mean that many people with asthma have limited access to essential inhaled medicines\, resulting in poorly controlled asthma and preventable asthma deaths. \nPolicy makers\, governments\, payers\, and pharmaceutical industry manufacturers and suppliers are called upon to increase their awareness of the continuing preventable morbidity and mortality associated with asthma in spite of the existence of evidence based\, highly effective management of asthma. \nWe call on everyone to increase their efforts to “Make Inhaled Treatments Accessible for ALL”\, in all countries throughout the world. \nSource:  World Asthma Day 2026 – Global Initiative for Asthma – GINA \n  \n

SUMMARY:Mental Health Awareness Week
DESCRIPTION:Today is the start of #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek\nThis week runs from the 11th to 17th May and was started by The Mental Health Foundation. It provides an opportunity for the UK to focus on achieving good mental health\, and to raise awareness for mental health issues. \nThe theme for 2026 is “Take Action”\nThis Mental Health Awareness Week we’re asking people to join us in taking action to support good mental health. Even small actions can help us feel hopeful and less powerless. And while our individual actions matter\, when we come together we are even more powerful. \n\n\n\n\nWe’ve chosen Action as this year’s theme because\, while awareness is vital\, real change comes when we take action too. Together\, we’ve come a long way on mental health\, but we can’t risk going backwards. There’s still much we can do to prevent people becoming unwell in the first place. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRaising awareness is vital\, but real change comes when we take action to !\n\n\n\n\nSource: Mental Health Awareness Week | Mental Health Foundation

DESCRIPTION:It’s #EndangeredSpeciesDay\nThis day was created as a way to remind us of how fragile the existence of some animals\, plants and insects is\, and to encourage us to learn about why it is so important to protect these species. \nIt is also a perfect time to learn about and celebrate the progress made to protect wildlife since the creation of the Endangered Species Act in 1973. \nFour Ways to Celebrate\n1. Become a Member of the National Wildlife Federation\nJoin millions across the country in supporting wildlife conservation efforts. \n2. Update Your Facebook Cover Photo\nShow your support for endangered species with a photo of your favourite wildlife species. Let us know you did it by tagging the National Wildlife Federation. \n3. Attend an Endangered Species Day event\nEvents are held across the country to highlight endangered species stories. Find an event near you. \n4. Help Kids Learn About Biodiversity\nThe National Wildlife Federation’s Eco-Schools USA has resources to get students ready to celebrate biodiversity and conservation. \nSources*Endangered Species Day – Endangered Species Coalition
