SUMMARY:Nelson Mandela International Day
DESCRIPTION:Nelson Mandela has many accolades. He’s  an iconic figure that triumphed over South Africa’s apartheid regime. He was a human rights lawyer\, a prisoner of conscience\, and an international peacemaker. And he was the first democratically elected president of a free South Africa (no biggie). \nSo you see why the United Nations General Assembly would want to celebrate his life. \nCommemorated on July 18 — Nelson Mandela’s birthday — Nelson Mandela International Day celebrates the idea that each individual has the power to transform the world and the ability to make an impact. So\, in honour of his 67 years of public service\, the Nelson Mandela Foundation and the U.N. ask that you spend 67 minutes of your time helping others. \nSource: NELSON MANDELA DAY – July 18\, 2025 – National Today

SUMMARY:Alcohol Awareness Week
DESCRIPTION:Alcohol Awareness Week is 7th- 14th July 2025. (The week has typically taken place in November each year. However\, Alcohol Awareness Week has now moved to its new spot in July.)It is a chance for the UK to get thinking about drinking. It’s a week of awareness-raising\, campaigning for change\, and more. The theme for Alcohol Awareness Week 2025  is “alcohol and work” \nAround 10 million of us are regularly drinking alcohol in ways that can harm our health and wellbeing. From headaches\, hangovers and sleepless nights to lower productivity and symptoms like anxiety and depression worsening over time\, alcohol affects us in so many ways. \nBut how many of us have stopped to think about the impact of the work we do on our risk from alcohol? With longer hours\, more stress\, the blurring of lines between work and home\, and too many workplace cultures that place booze rather than people at the centre of things\, there are so many ways work and alcohol are linked. This Alcohol Awareness Week\, it’s time for us\, and the places we work\, to feel healthier\, more productive and happier. \nThe cost of living crisis has also played a key role in causing some people to drink more than they’d like to cope with worries around the crisis. \nBut the cost of alcohol to individuals\, our relationships\, our families\, and our stretched vital public services doesn’t have to be so high. \nWe can all take steps to make a change. And with improved support and prevention\, we can save money and save lives. \nJoin us for this year’s Alcohol Awareness Week to find out more about alcohol and its cost to us all. \nSource: About Alcohol Awareness Week | Alcohol Change UK

SUMMARY:World Chocolate Day
DESCRIPTION:World Chocolate Day is sometimes referred to as International Chocolate Day. \nIt takes place on 7 July every year\, and put simply\, it’s a celebration of all things chocolate! The event was created in 2009. In some countries around the world\, the day is celebrated on different dates. But July 7 was chosen for World Chocolate Day because this day is thought to be around the time that chocolate was introduced to European countries. It quickly became a favourite treat in South Africa and across the world! \nThere are all sorts of different ways that you can celebrate World Chocolate Day.  The most obvious is by tucking into some chocolate\, but what if you’re after some more outside the (chocolate) box ideas? \nWhy not bake some delicious chocolate chip cookies with your kids\, or watch “Charlie & the Chocolate Factory” movie with your family. Or find some fun facts and the history around chocolate? \nSource: World Chocolate Day 2025 | 7th July | Twinkl – Twinkl

SUMMARY:Refugee Week
DESCRIPTION:Refugee Week\nFor Refugee Week we invite you to celebrate what compassion looks like in action. Together we can create a shared understanding of compassion to ensure we are extending it widely to all. \n“Our task must be to free ourselves – by widening our circles of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.”- Albert Einstein \nWhy compassion?\nThe last few years have been challenging for all of us. We are still adjusting to new realities post-lockdown as well as responding to new crises. In the UK\, dangerous anti-migration government rhetoric continues\, along with inhumane conditions for #AsylumSeekers.\n \nBut\, none of these things happen in isolation. We know how interconnected our world is: how something seemingly “far away” impacts everyone. All of this makes us even more aware of the need to widen our circles of compassion. \nWithin our own experiences are all the tools we need to be compassionate\, not just to ourselves and those in our immediate circle but to all our human neighbours and our one shared home\, planet earth. \n*Source and find out more:  About – Refugee Week \n#RefugeeWeek #Compassion #CompassionIntoAction #SimpleActs

SUMMARY:Children's Book Week 2
DESCRIPTION:Children’s Book Week is an annual celebration of reading for pleasure for children of primary school age. A fantastic opportunity for extended teaching on any of your favourite children’s books! This year\, 2024\, marks the 100th Anniversary of Children’s Book Week and the theme is “How Do You Book?”. \nWhen is Children’s Book Week?\nThere are technically no set dates for Children’s Book Week\, meaning you’re free to celebrate this whenever suits you! However\, in the UK\, this year the event takes place over two weeks: the 6th to 12th of May and the 4th to 10th of November. Join in the celebrations with our friends across the pond\, or tie in your Children’s Book Week celebrations around World Book Day. \nWhen did Children’s Book Week start?\nThe idea for this event was conceived by Franklin K. Matthiews\, the librarian of the Boy Scouts of America\, in 1913. He thought that a celebration of children’s books would help get more children into reading\, helped by the backing of publishers\, booksellers and librarians in the US. Now going on for over 100 years\, Children’s Book Week continues to grow in popularity year on year. \nHow can I get involved with Children’s Book Week?\nSimple. Get reading! There are so many fantastic children’s books available in libraries and bookshops that it can be difficult to know where to start your search for some great children’s literature. \n#HowDoYouBook #Literacy #ReadingForJoy #FavouriteBooks \n  \nSource: Children’s Book Week 2024 – Event Info and Resources (twinkl.co.uk)

SUMMARY:Cavernoma Awareness Day
DESCRIPTION:Cavernoma Awareness Day 2024 is on 21st August and aims to increase knowledge of how to spot its symptoms\, understand its causes\, and spread more awareness across your friend groups and workplace organisations. \nIn order to assist in raising the profile surrounding this condition\, it’s important to have as much information at hand as possible. Here’s what you need to know about Cavernoma Awareness Day to do your part and participate this year. \nWhat is Cavernoma?\nCavernoma refers to groups of abnormal blood vessels that form in clusters in the spinal cord and brain. Cavernomas contain blood which travels slowly through these vessels\, usually clotting. The look and shape of a Cavernoma resembles a raspberry and can range from a few millimetres to a few centimetres in size. \nWhat are the Symptoms of Cavernoma?\nSpotting the signs and symptoms of Cavernoma can be difficult as they tend to vary from person to person. The size of the Cavernoma and its location can also cause these symptoms to vary. Generally speaking\, these are some of the most notable Cavernoma symptoms: \n\nSeizures or severely painful headaches\nIssues with memory and concentration\nIssues with keeping your balance\nTinnitus and difficulty hearing\nBlurred or double vision\nDizziness and fatigue\nDrooping in the face\nDifficulty talking\nNumbness\n\nHow is Cavernoma Treated?\nFor some cases\, Cavernoma will predominantly be treated and controlled with medications\, especially in the case of extreme headaches and seizures. In more extreme cases where there’s a risk of haemorrhage and heavy bleeding\, further steps will most likely be taken in the form of surgical treatment or radiation in the event of surgery being deemed too dangerous. \nHowever\, it’s important to remember that each Cavernoma case will be unique\, and that treatment methods will vary depending on several different factors. \nWhether you or someone you know may have #Cavernoma\, or you’re just eager to help raise as much awareness as possible\, sharing this knowledge is the best way to do your part this year. \n  \nSource: (1) New Messages! SUMMARY:Chinese New Year
DESCRIPTION:Chinese New Year 2024 will take place on the 10th of February\, with the beginning of the Year of the Dragon. Celebrations will last from the 9th of February (New Year’s Eve) until the 15th day of the New Year. \nWhat is The Chinese New Year calendar?\nEach year (also known as a cycle) of the Chinese New Year calendar is represented by a different zodiac animal. There are 12 in total. According to legend\, these 12 animals participated in a race\, which then determined their place of order in the Chinese New Year calendar. \nWhy is Chinese New Year celebrated?\nChinese New Year\, also known as the Lunar New Year or the Spring Festival\, marks the first day of the New Year in the Chinese traditional calendar\, which is a lunisolar calendar. Unlike the Gregorian calendar\, used widely around the world today\, the lunisolar calendar determines dates using the location of the sun and the moon relative to the Earth. This is why\, on our Western calendars\, the date changes each year! \nIt is one of the most important events in Chinese culture and the holiday is today celebrated all around the world. Many other countries celebrate the holiday as an official festival (Korea\, Vietnam\, Singapore\, Malaysia\, Indonesia and the Philippines) due to its cultural significance. \nWhat are some Chinese New Year traditions?\nTraditionally\, Chinese New Year is a time for people to honour their ancestors and deities. Still\, many of the customs and traditions of the holiday vary wildly from region to region. Many families across China gather the night before Chinese New Year’s Day for a festive dinner to reunite them. Many people will also clean their house before the new year; this is done to cleanse any ill fortune and is thought to allow for good luck going into the new year. \nIt is also customary for people to decorate their windows and doors with red decorations\, as red is seen as a lucky colour in Chinese culture. Many also light firecrackers and gift money in red paper envelopes to celebrate! \n  \n#ChineseNewYear #YearOfTheDragon \nChinese New Year – Wikipedia

SUMMARY:National Grandparent's Day
DESCRIPTION:According to the National Grandparents Day website\, the aim of National Grandparents Day is: \nTo honour grandparents \n\nTo give grandparents an opportunity to show love for their children’s children\nTo help children become aware of the strength\, information and guidance older people can offer\n\nIn the UK Grandparents’ Day is celebrated on the first Sunday of October each year. \nWhat to do on Grandparents’ Day? \n\nHonour the grandparents/grandchild relationships. If you can you should try to spend some time together. Below are 10 ideas of things you could do together:\nMake something especially for your grandparents (for example a picture\, a poem\, a treat)\nGet them to pass on knowledge (learn how to bake your favourite cake\, learn how to cross-stitch\, catch a fish or use a hammer)\nInterview them (ask them all the questions you’d like answers to about their amazing lives!)\nHave a sleepover and watch a film of their choice\nGet them to play cards with you (grandparents are often full of fun ideas when it comes to card games)\nMake a family tree with photos or hand-drawn images of family members\nSwitch roles! (be a grandparent for a day\, let them relax and you do all the pampering they usually do)\nOffer to do tasks around the house/garden\nMake a card and list why you admire them\nGet them to show you old photo albums and tell you all the stories behind the pictures\n\nThese are only a few ideas we came up with.
