SUMMARY:International Day of Women and Girls in Science
DESCRIPTION:Today the 11th February marks the International Day of Women and Girls in Science! \nThis day was established in order to achieve full and equal access to and participation in\, science for women and girls\, and further achieve gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. \nDid you know?\n\nWomen are typically given smaller research grants than their male colleagues and\, while they represent 33.3% of all researchers\, only 12% of members of national science academies are women.\nIn cutting edge fields such as artificial intelligence\, only one in five professionals (22%) is a woman.\nDespite a shortage of skills in most of the technological fields driving the Fourth Industrial Revolution\, women still account for only 28% of engineering graduates and 40% of graduates in computer science and informatics\nFemale researchers tend to have shorter\, less well-paid careers. Their work is underrepresented in high-profile journals and they are often passed over for promotions.\n\nSource: https://www.un.org/en/observances/women-and-girls-in-science-day

SUMMARY:National Love Your Pet Day
DESCRIPTION:On February 20th\, we celebrate National Love Your Pet Day\, a day to embrace one special trait that makes us human: our love of our pets! There are many things that differentiate humans from the rest of the Animal Kingdom\, but one of the more unusual behaviours is our longstanding tendency to keep other animals as pets. \nAccording to a UK Pet Food report\, 16.2 million (57%) of UK households reported owning a pet in January 2023\, accounting for about 38 million pets total throughout the country. It only makes sense to commemorate something that’s so important to so many people\, so on February 20th\, we celebrate our pets with National Love Your Pet Day! \nPets have been a part of human life for thousands of years. Ever since we’ve made our first steps into civilisation\, animals have been right there alongside us. And look at those faces! Who could blame us? \nNobody really knows exactly what animal the very first pet was. But\, one animal\, the wolf\, lived alongside early humans for centuries. Even as far back as 12\,000 years ago\, dogs and cats were buried in their human counterparts’ graves. It seems that even early humans had a deep attachment to their furry friends. \nWhether cats\, dogs\, birds\, or even spiders\, lets celebrate our furry/feathered friends and shower them with love and affection on this day! \n#NationalLoveYourPetDay #AnimalWelfare #FurryFriends #PetsAreFamily #PetCare #SpoilYourPet \n

SUMMARY:Care Day
DESCRIPTION:Care Day\, observed on the third Friday in February is a day dedicated to recognising and celebrating the vital work of #Carers and Caregivers who provide essential support to individuals in need\, whether due to illness\, disability\, old age\, or other circumstances. This day highlights the often unseen and underappreciated role that caregivers play in enhancing the quality of life for those they care for\, ensuring that they are treated with dignity\, respect\, and compassion. \n#CareDay serves as an opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of caregiving\, acknowledge the emotional and physical challenges caregivers face\, and advocate for better support and resources for those who dedicate their lives to caring for others. It also offers a moment to reflect on the importance of self-care for caregivers\, as caring for others can sometimes come at the expense of their own well-being. \nThis day encourages communities\, organisations\, and individuals to express their gratitude\, offer support\, and promote policies that ensure carers have the resources they need to continue their work with health\, strength\, and compassion. \n#ThankACaregiver #SupportCaregivers #CaregivingHeroes #CaringForOthers \nSource: Care Day | Awareness Days

SUMMARY:Eating Disorders Awareness Week
DESCRIPTION:The 23rd February marks the start of Eating Disorders Awareness Week. The week was established to raise awareness of eating disorders and to campaign for the improvement of the treatment in this field. A large part of the campaign is calling for all UK medical schools to introduce proper training on eating disorders\, this type of change would improve access to treatment and break the pattern of misdiagnosis. \nIn the UK\, at least 1.25 million people are living with an eating disorder That’s at least 1 in 50 people.  And yet many people wouldn’t know how to spot the signs that someone has an eating disorder. This is important because the sooner someone is treated for an eating disorder the better their chance of making a full recovery. \nThe campaign aims to reach new audiences with the message that eating disorders are serious mental health conditions that can affect anyone – at any age\, gender\, or background – at any time. \nSo join us to raise awareness of this serious mental health condition and let people know that anyone can be affected by an eating disorder. \n#EatingDisordersAwarenessWeek #ARFID #EatingDisorders #MentalHealth \nSource: https://edaw.beateatingdisorders.org.uk/

SUMMARY:Stand Up to Bullying Day
DESCRIPTION:Today\, 27th February\, is Stand Up to Bullying Day\, launched in 2016 with the support of HRH The Duke of Cambridge. The day seeks to bring the nation together to take a collective stand against all forms of bullying\, whether in school\, the workplace\, online or elsewhere. Bullying can have lasting effects on a person’s psyche\, and it is important to recognize instances of bullying and put an end to them immediately. \nOne of the main tenets of Stand Up to Bullying Day is calling out others when their actions are unkind. So standing up to bullying isn’t as simple as not being a part of the problem\, what’s imperative is having the courage to call out others. Standing up means being an upstander\, not a bystander. \n#AntiBullying #BeKind #AlwaysBeKind #CyberBullying \n  \nSource: INTERNATIONAL STAND UP TO BULLYING DAY – February 27\, 2026 – National Today \n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Rare Disease Day
DESCRIPTION:RARE DISEASE DAY IS TAKING PLACE ON 28th FEBRUARY 2026 \nDid you know that there are 3.5 million people in the UK living with a rare condition? And that 1 in 17 people will be affected by a rare condition at some point in their lives? \nRare Disease Day is a globally coordinated movement dedicated to rare diseases\, striving for equity in social opportunities\, healthcare\, and access to diagnosis and therapies for people living with a rare disease. \nSince its creation in 2008\, Rare Disease Day has played a crucial role in building an international rare disease community—multi-disease\, global\, and diverse\, yet united in purpose. \nThough Rare Disease Day is patient-led\, everyone—including individuals\, families\, caregivers\, healthcare professionals\, researchers\, clinicians\, policymakers\, industry representatives\, and the general public—can participate in raising awareness and taking action for this vulnerable population in urgent need of attention. \nBy spreading the word on social media\, organising events\, illuminating buildings\, monuments\, and homes\, sharing experiences online and with friends\, calling on policymakers\, and shining a light on people living with a rare disease\, we collectively aim to change and improve the lives of 300 million people worldwide. \nWhy not get involved and share your story ! Write a blog\, post your story on Social Media\, speak at an event or fundraise for your cause. \n#RareDiseaseDay #StoriesBehindTheStats #RareConditions #GeneticConditions \nSource: Rare Disease Day 2026

SUMMARY:National Endometriosis Awareness Month
DESCRIPTION:National Endometriosis Awareness Month  is observed from 1st March each year.\n\nIt helps to raise awareness about this condition that can be hidden and often unrecognised.\n\n#Endometriosis is a disease that affects women when tissue similar to the lining of the womb grows on the outer part of the uterus instead of inside it. Symptoms include pain\, like dysmenorrhoea\, dyspareunia\, and chronic pelvic or abdominal pain. Endometriosis is known to lead to infertility. The prevalence rate ranges from 25% to 40% for women with subfertility.\n\nNational Endometriosis Awareness Month helps to spread information about endometriosis as a debilitating\, and disabling disease. It recognises the consequences of living with endometriosis for the patient\, care provider\, and all those affected by the disease. This March\, Endometriosis UK are hosting events for political representatives across all 4 nations to raise awareness of endometriosis with those in power. Take action by asking your elected representatives to attend events in March using our easy-to-use form.\n\n\n\n#WomensHealth #Endo #EndoWarrior #Infertility #MenstrualHealth\n\n\nEnding endometriosis starts by saying it | Endometriosis UK (endometriosis-uk.org)

SUMMARY:World Book Day
DESCRIPTION:The 5th March this year is World Book Day! \n#WorldBookDay changes lives through a love of books and shared reading. Their mission is to promote reading for pleasure\, offering every child and young person the opportunity to have a book of their own. \nReading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator of a child’s future success – more than their family circumstances\, their parents’ educational background or their income. We want to see more children\, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds\, with a life-long habit of reading for pleasure and the improved life chances this brings them. \n#Literacy #WorldBookDay2026 #ReadingForPleasure \nSee: World Book Day 2026 – Ideas and Teaching Activities | National Literacy Trust

SUMMARY:Mother's Day
DESCRIPTION:Mothering Sunday\, more commonly known as Mother’s Day\, is observed in The UK every year on the fourth Sunday of Lent\, which means it is a moveable feast. As such it is always three weeks before Easter Sunday. \nIt is a day for celebrating #Mothers and showering them with gifts and treats. \nThe origins of Mothering Sunday\nCelebrations of motherhood go back to the ancient Greeks and Romans. The Greeks had festivals honouring Rhea and Cybele\, known as the mother goddesses\, and the Romans celebrated mothers during the festival of Hilaria. \nThe roots of Mothering Sunday can be found in the church. It was originally a day when Christians would return to their ‘mother’ church\, the church in their hometown\, or where their family worshiped. As such it also became a time when wealthy landowners would give their younger servants the day off so that they could go home to attend church with their families. \nIn time\, it evolved to become a church celebration of mothers and #Motherhood. It was a day when the church would pray for mothers and hand out flowers\, commonly daffodils\, to not only the mothers in the church but all women. It also became a more secular occasion\, a time when people would not return home to attend church\, but return home to spend time with their mothers. \nNo matter whether the day is referred to as #MotheringSunday or as #MothersDay\, the principle message remains the same\, respect and appreciate your mother and other women in your life who have helped you to become the person you are.

It aims to transform how #Neurodivergent individuals are perceived and supported by providing schools\, universities\, and organisations with the opportunity to recognise the many talents and advantages of being neurodivergent\, while creating more inclusive and equitable cultures that celebrate differences and empower every individual. \n\n\n\nIf we work together there is no limit to the change we can make. \n\nIt is time to recognise the many strengths and talents that come from thinking and perceiving the world differently. By celebrating the strengths of #Neurodivergent individuals\, we can begin the seismic shift of changing the way neurodivergent individuals are perceived and supported\, empowering them to achieve their potential. \nTogether\, we can change the narrative. \n\n\n\n\n\nSource: Neurodiversity Celebration Week (neurodiversityweek.com)

SUMMARY:St Patrick's Day
DESCRIPTION:St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated annually on March 17\, the anniversary of his death in the fifth century.\n\n\n \n\n\nThe #Irish have observed this day as a religious holiday for over 1\,000 years. On #StPatricksDay\, which falls during the Christian season of Lent\, Irish families would traditionally attend church in the morning and celebrate in the afternoon. Lenten prohibitions against the consumption of meat were waived and people would dance\, drink and feast on the traditional meal of Irish bacon and cabbage.\n\n\n \n\n\nSaint Patrick\, who lived during the fifth century\, is the patron saint of Ireland and its national apostle. Born in Roman Britain\, he was kidnapped and brought to #Ireland as a slave at 16. He later escaped\, but returned to Ireland and was credited with bringing Christianity to its people.\n\n\n \n\n\nSource:  When is St. Patrick’s Day 2026? | Sky HISTORY TV Channel

SUMMARY:British Summer Time Begins
DESCRIPTION:Daylight savings start today in the UK with the start of British Summer Time. \nSunrise and sunset will be about 1 hour later on 29th March 2026 than the day before. Meaning that there will be less light first thing and more light in the evening. \nHistory of Daylight Savings: \n‘Spring forward\, fall back’. In spring\, the clocks go forward one hour and British Summer Time begins. In autumn (fall)\, the clocks go back as British Summer Time comes to an end and the UK reverts back to Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). \nBut when did this practice begin\, and why? British Summer Time\, also known as Daylight Saving Time\, was the brainchild of a builder from Kent called William Willett. The story goes that one day on his way back from riding his horse in Petts Wood near his home in the early 1900s\, he noticed many of the blinds and curtains in the neighbouring houses were still drawn\, even though it was light. This led him to consider the idea of adapting the time to better fit daylight hours. Back then the clocks were set all year round to Greenwich Mean Time\, meaning it was light by 3am and dark around 9pm in the summer. \nSource: https://www.historic-uk.com/CultureUK/British-Summer-Time/

SUMMARY:April Fools Day
DESCRIPTION:April Fools’ Day—celebrated on April 1 each year—has been celebrated for several centuries by different cultures\, though its exact origins remain a mystery. April Fools’ Day traditions include playing hoaxes or practical jokes on others\, often yelling “April Fools!” at the end to clue in the subject of the April Fools’ Day prank. While its exact history is shrouded in mystery\, the embrace of April Fools’ Day jokes by the media and major brands has ensured the unofficial holiday’s long life. *1 \nSome of the Best – Shared by BBC\nThe Swiss spaghetti harvest\nIn 1957 Richard Dimbleby\, Panoram\, anchored the piece about a particularly bountiful crop of spaghetti in Switzerland. *2 \nThe islands of San Serriffe\nIf you think typefaces can’t be funny\, think again. \nIn 1977\, the Guardian published a travel guide to the mysterious island grouping of San Serriffe. SUMMARY:Stress Awareness Month
DESCRIPTION:Stress and poor mental health are one of the biggest public health challenges that we’re facing. Sadly\, even though that is the case\, we are still not taking its impact seriously enough. We continue to separate mental health from physical health and vice versa. The reality is they cannot be separate – they are two sides of the same coin. There is no health without mental health and stress can lead to numerous health problems. From physical problems\, like heart disease\, insomnia\, digestive issues\, immune system challenges\, etc to more serious mental health disorders such as anxiety and depression. \nStress Awareness Month has been held every April since 1992 to raise awareness of the causes and cures for our modern-day stress epidemic. It is the time when we have an opportunity for an open conversation on the impact of stress. Dedicated time to removing the guilt\, shame\, and stigma around mental health. To talk about stress\, and its effects and open up about our mental and emotional state with friends\, families\, colleagues\, and professionals. \nThis year\, 2026\, the theme is #BeTheChange\, inspired by Gandhi’s idea to “be the change you wish to see in the world.”\n#StressAwarenessMonth #Anxiety #Depression #Insomnia #LeadWithLove #MentalHealthMatters #ConnectedCommunities \nSource*  Stress Awareness Month 2026 – The Stress Management Society \n

SUMMARY:National Siblings Day
DESCRIPTION:April 10th is National Siblings Day. A wonderful opportunity to shine a light on the value of sibling relationships\, to highlight what an important role siblings play. \n#Siblings who grow up with a disabled brother or sister often spend a lot of time coming second (or third or fourth…) to the needs of another. Their day-to-day life may centre around their brother or sister’s routine and their abilities. It can be challenging to share time with parents and some siblings may be helping out more around the home or with caring tasks. \nAs adults\, siblings may have the longest-standing relationship with their disabled brother or sister across the lifespan\, beyond that of care providers\, professionals and other family members. Siblings are often advocates for their brother or sister’s needs whilst juggling a work and family life of their own. \nMany siblings enjoy and value the unique connection and relationship they share with their brother or sister.  National Siblings Day is a wonderful opportunity to shine a light on the value of sibling relationships\, to highlight what an important role siblings play in the lives of their disabled brothers and sisters and to celebrate siblings in their own right too. \n  \n#ItsaSiblingThing \nSource:  Celebrate National Siblings Day on 10th April 2026 – Sibs \n

SUMMARY:Micro Volunteering Day
DESCRIPTION:People all over the world are often inspired to want to do something for a worthy cause\, but they simply don’t know where to start. That’s because all of us tend to focus on the big acts of volunteering — the types that make the news. Fortunately\, there’s another way that people can take action that’s just as good as the big sweeping acts of #Charity. \n#Microvolunteering allows people to take smaller actions\, many times from the comfort of their own homes\, to support a cause that they believe in. It’s something that allows everyone to take action and that’s why people try their hands at doing it on International Microvolunteering Day. This day falls on 15th April every year and allows everyone to support the causes they love. \nPeople can spread the news of this Awareness Day through social media and encourage other people to also support their favourite causes by taking the time to spread the news of this cause using the hashtag #MicrovolunteeringDay on social media. \nThis is a great way to help encourage change and to get all of us on the same page. So\, let’s go out there and support the organisations that we support. \n

SUMMARY:MS Awareness Week
DESCRIPTION:MS Awareness Week 2026 will run from 20th April. \nWhat is MS?\nMS is a condition that affects the body’s central nervous system (CNS). By the latest estimates\, over 2.8 million people worldwide have MS. \nIt’s a disorder that causes your body’s immune system to attack myelin\, a coating that insulates some of your nerve fibers. This process is known as demyelination. When myelin is damaged or destroyed\, it affects the nerve impulses traveling to and from the brain and spinal cord\, causing a wide variety of symptoms in MS. \nOnce diagnosed\, MS stays with you for life\, but treatments and specialists can help you to manage the condition and its symptoms. \nMS can be tough\, and for many people talking about it can be challenging. Whether you’re opening up to a friend after being newly diagnosed\, or finding the right words to describe symptoms to an employer. But if people know about your MS and how it affects you\, they’ll be in a better place to offer support if and when you need it. \n#MSWeek #MultipleSclerosis #MSAwarenessWeek \nSource* \nhttps://www.mssociety.org.uk/get-involved/ms-awareness-week

SUMMARY:National Tea Day
DESCRIPTION:There is nothing more classically British than afternoon tea\, which makes National Tea Day\, April 21st\, a wildly popular occasion in the country. \nThis love of tea dates back centuries and this fondness seems to only get stronger with time! National Tea Day’s slogan is “Brew More. Do More.” The vision is to inspire special moments with #Tea. Working with a variety of partner companies throughout the year\, they desire to bring tea drinkers\, tea servers and the entire tea industry together. \nIt’s relatively common knowledge that we have the Chinese to thank for tea\, but it was actually a Portuguese woman named Catherine of Braganza who popularized the beverage in England. In 1662\, Catherine married King Charles II. Her dowry included several crates of loose leaf tea\, which she continued drinking every day in the U.K. The royal court quickly adopted the tea-drinking process\, including aristocrats. \nHenry James\, author and nominee for a Nobel Prize in Literature\, once said\, “There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea.” \nNational Tea Day celebrates the world’s second favourite drink — only to water — so heavily stemmed in everyday culture so each of us can learn and revel in its drinking experience! \n#NiceCuppaTea #BrewMoreDoMore #NationalTeaDay \nSource:  NATIONAL TEA DAY – April 21\, 2025 – National Today

SUMMARY:Saint George's Day
DESCRIPTION:Take a close look at the English flag. That red cross over a white background has meaning. It’s actually St. George’s Cross — a symbol so closely intertwined with English national identity that St. George has his own national holiday. \nThe legend of Saint George and the Dragon describes the saint taming and slaying a dragon that demanded human sacrifices. We celebrate St. George’s Day on April 23 — the anniversary of his death in 303 AD. \nThe patron saint of England has captivated British imaginations since the Crusades and the Hundred Years’ War. Perhaps the most British of all holidays\, this special day is a chance to let your English flag fly\, literally and figuratively. \nLearn more here: https://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/whats-on/st-georges-day/ \n
