SUMMARY:White Ribbon Day
DESCRIPTION:White Ribbon Day sees the start of 16 Days of Action against domestic and sexual violence. \nWhite Ribbon is a campaign led by men\, aimed at putting an end to male violence against women. Men across the globe raise awareness and show their support for the campaign by wearing a white ribbon. \n1 in 4 women will be a victim to sexual assault or attempted assault in their lifetimes. (National Audit Office\, 2025) \nCulture change doesn’t happen overnight\, but we can end men’s violence against women and girls in our lifetimes. \nThis years theme is #WeSpeakUp. Letting sexism slide puts women and girls at risk. Sexist jokes\, catcalling\, staring\, and comments might seem harmless\, but they are serious because they can lead to violence and abuse.\nThis White Ribbon Day\, we want more men to use their voices and speak up to create a world where everyone is safe\, equal and respected. \nEvery time we ignore something that doesn’t feel right\, we miss a chance to set a better example. \nViolence experienced by women and girls takes many forms. Some behaviours and words may seem ‘harmless’ but normalising them ignores the short- and long-term effects on women and can lead to more extreme violence. \n#WhiteRibbonDay #NoExcuseForAbuse #WeSpeakUp \nFind out more about White Ribbon Day: https://www.whiteribbon.org.uk/

SUMMARY:Transgender Day of Remembrance
DESCRIPTION:Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) was started in 1999 by transgender advocate Gwendolyn Ann Smith as a vigil to honour the memory of Rita Hester\, a transgender woman who was killed in 1998. The vigil commemorated all the transgender people lost to violence since Rita Hester’s death\, and began an important tradition that has become the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance. \n“Transgender Day of Remembrance seeks to highlight the losses we face due to anti-transgender bigotry and violence. I am no stranger to the need to fight for our rights\, and the right to simply exist is first and foremost. With so many seeking to erase transgender people — sometimes in the most brutal ways possible — it is vitally important that those we lose are remembered\, and that we continue to fight for justice.”- Transgender Day of Remembrance founder Gwendolyn Ann Smith \nSource: Glaad \n  \nFind Out More: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transgender_Day_of_Remembrance

SUMMARY:International Men's Day
DESCRIPTION:On November 19\, International Men’s Day celebrates worldwide the positive value men bring to the world\, their families and communities. We highlight positive role models and raise awareness of men’s well-being. The theme for 2025 is “Celebrating Men and Boys”.\nInternational Men’s Day encourages men to teach the boys in their lives the values\, character and responsibilities of being a man. Mahatma Gandhi said\, “We must become the change we seek.” It is only when we all\, both men and women\, lead by example that we will create a fair and safe society that allows everyone the opportunity to prosper. \nInternational Men’s Day is an opportunity for people everywhere of goodwill to appreciate and celebrate the men in their lives and the contribution they make to society for the greater good of all. \n#InternationalMensDay #LeadingByExample #ZeroMaleSuicide \n  \nFind Out More: https://internationalmensday.com/

SUMMARY:Transgender Awareness Week
DESCRIPTION:Transgender Awareness Week is when transgender people\, particularly activists and allies\, raise awareness of the issues that trans people face. The aim of Transgender Awareness Week is to promote trans visibility and make people who aren’t transgender understand the discrimination that trans people face. \n#TransgenderAwarenessWeek is also a time for celebration. As a marginalised community\, #Transgender people face a lot of discrimination. A lot of the stories told about trans people focus on the difficulties of being trans and rarely share positive stories. Transgender Awareness Week creates a space for celebrating transgender joy and encourages a shift in the popular narrative. \nThere is a unique kind of joy experienced by trans people that can come from a number of things that cisgender people might take for granted. Things that add to this joy include being addressed with the correct pronouns\, being fully accepted in new spaces\, or being perceived as their correct gender. \nThis is also a week for non-transgender people (known as ‘cisgender’) to learn more about the #TransCommunity from the trans community. It’s essential that cisgender people learn about transgender people from the actual community rather than secondary sources. \nSource: Transgender Awareness Week 2025 | Twinkl Event – Twinkl \n

SUMMARY:World Kindness Day
DESCRIPTION:World Kindness Day is an international holiday that was formed in 1998\, to promote #Kindness throughout the world and is observed annually on November 13 as part of the World Kindness Movement. It is observed in many countries including the United States\, Canada\, Japan\, Australia and the U.A.E. \n#WorldKindnessDay presents us with the opportunity to reflect upon one of the most important and unifying human principles. On a day devoted to the positive potential of both large and small acts of kindness\, try to promote and diffuse this crucial quality that brings people of every kind together. \nThe purpose of World Kindness Day as outlined by the World Kindness Movement is “to highlight good deeds in the community focusing on the positive power and the common thread of kindness which binds us.” Since its creation more than two decades ago\, the day has achieved truly global notice; events associated with the day have attracted participants from every inhabited continent. These have included activities such as concerts\, dance mobs\, and the distribution of “kindness cards.” \nThe objective of World Kindness Day is to spread kindness with small gestures. The main tradition of the day is to be kind and to try and encourage kindness to prevail over hatred. Whether it’s helping out someone with chores\, taking the time out to ask how someone is doing\, or complimenting someone\, the name of the game is kindness\, and we all have it in us. \nSource:  World Kindness Day 2022. SUMMARY:Movember
DESCRIPTION:As always\, this month is Movember ! \nOn average\, men die 5 years earlier than women\, and this needs to change. \nOne of the reasons for this may be men’s tendency to turn a blind eye to unusual symptoms to avoid a visit to the doctor. Don’t let complacency stop you from enjoying an otherwise long and healthy life. \nHave you noticed something out of the ordinary with your body? SUMMARY:World Sight Day
DESCRIPTION:World Sight Day is 9th October 2025\, and focuses the world’s attention on the importance of eye care in young people and inspiring children everywhere to love their eyes. \nTogether\, The International Agency of the Prevention of Blindness are creating a world where every child has eye health that is accessible\, available and affordable. \nStarting with a groundswell of young people who are inspired to make their vision a priority. A generation of children who have all the information they need to protect their eyes and\, crucially\, take the steps needed to look after their vision – from reducing screen time and placing importance on being outside through to seeking help for any ailments and discomfort. \nThey campaign to ensure that children not only understand the importance of caring for their eye health but are also free from the weight of any social stigma associated with wearing glasses and other corrective treatments. \nThrough these efforts\, governments and those of influence are listening like never before – recognising that early intervention and regular eye health is critical to unlocking education opportunities and future economic potential. \nJoin them and millions of children globally in making the case loudly and repeatedly that eye health in young people is not an optional extra. It is vital to everything. \nThis would be a good time to get your eyes checked. SUMMARY:World Animal Day
DESCRIPTION:World Animal Day is an annual event on the 4th of October\, celebrating #AnimalRights and welfare across the globe. It’s an important day and has been marked since 1925\, with a growing international community striving to end the needless suffering of all animals. World Animal Day is celebrated yearly on October 4th to align with the feast day of Saint Francis of Assisi\, the patron saint of ecology and animals. \nBy increasing awareness and improving education worldwide\, those involved are helping to create a space recognising wild and farmed animals as sentient beings with thoughts\, feelings\, and individual personalities. Their welfare and treatment must reflect this. \nWith its international reach\, many people around the world celebrate #WorldAnimalDay in different ways. Businesses and individuals can give a voice to animals by celebrating World Animal Day in various ways\, whether that’s through a fundraising event for charities supporting protection efforts\, a goods donation drive or education sessions\, there are so many options for everyone to get involved. \n  \nSource: World Animal Day | World Animal Protection

SUMMARY:International Literacy Day
DESCRIPTION:Today is #InternationalLiteracyDay\, a day to raise awareness of the importance of literacy not just to an individual\, but to broader communities and societies. \nDespite progress made\, literacy challenges persist with at least 773 million young people and adults lacking basic literacy skills today. The pandemic has further exacerbated challenges faced by non-literate children and adults by disrupting their access to education. \nLiteracy is an important tool to be able to engage with a number of facets of modern society\, so it needs to be made a priority. \nThis year\, ILD will be celebrated under the theme of  “Promoting literacy in the digital era.” \nDigitalisation has been changing ways in which we learn\, live\, work and socialise\, in both positive and negative ways\, depending on how we engage with it. While digital tools can help expand learning opportunities for marginalised groups\, including 754 million young people and adults who lack basic literacy skills\, this digital shift also risks creating double marginalisation – exclusion not only from traditional literacy learning but also from the benefits of the digital age. Digitalisation also raises other concerns\, including privacy issues\, privacy\, digital surveillance\, reinforced biases\, ethics\, the risk of passive consumption\, and environmental impacts. \nLiteracy is a key for making these transformations inclusive\, relevant and meaningful. Beyond reading and writing on paper\, literacy in the digital era enables people to access\, understand\, evaluate\, create\, communicate and engage with digital content safely and appropriately. Literacy is also central for fostering critical thinking\, discerning credible information and navigating complex information environments.  \n#ILD2025 #ImALifelongLearner #EducationForAll \nSource: UNESCO

SUMMARY:Blood Cancer Awareness Month
DESCRIPTION:September 2025 Is Blood Cancer Awareness Month\nWhat do #Leukaemia\, #Lymphoma\, and #Myeloma have in common? They’re all blood cancers. According to the Leukaemia & Lymphoma Society\, more than 1.5 million people today are living with or in remission from blood cancer. \nBlood cancers are a complex group of diseases. Advances in treatment are helping more people live longer after diagnosis. But more than a third of people with blood cancer live fewer than 5 years after diagnosis. \nBut what are the symptoms? Can a test reveal whether you have blood cancer before you even have symptoms? Who’s at risk and what should you discuss with a doctor? \n#BloodCancerAwarenessMonth exists so that more people will learn the answers to these questions. You can help by sharing facts and information online and in your community\, as well as supporting people who are living with blood cancer. \nSource: September is Blood Cancer Awareness Month: Leukemia\, Lymphoma\, Myeloma (healthline.com)

SUMMARY:Women's Equality Day
DESCRIPTION:Women’s Equality Day\, celebrated every August 26th\, commemorates the passage of women’s suffrage and reminds us of the hurdles overcome by the heroic women who faced violence and #Discrimination to propel the women’s movement forward. \nIn the early 19th century\, American women\, who generally couldn’t inherit property and made half of a man’s wages in any available jobs\, began organizing to demand political rights and representation. \nBy the early 1900s\, several countries including Finland\, New Zealand\, and the United Kingdom had legalized voting for women as the movement continued to sweep across the world. \nIn the U.S.\, the 19th Amendment to the Constitution was first introduced in 1878\, but it failed to gain traction. It wasn’t until women’s involvement in the World War I effort made their contributions painfully obvious that women’s suffrage finally gained enough support. Women’s rights groups pointed out the hypocrisy of fighting for democracy in Europe while denying it to half of the American citizens at home. \nWomen aren’t done fighting for equal rights. Today\, the wage gap between men and women still impacts women’s economic power\, and gender-based discrimination still plagues workplaces and business transactions. \n#WomensEqualityDay is all about uplifting and #EmpoweringWomen\, and marvelling at how far women have progressed\, defying all odds and oppression. General traditions include men and women expressing gratitude to influential women in their lives\, supporting local businesses run by women\, and celebrating womanhood with your girl gang and special ladies. \n  \nSource:  WOMEN’S EQUALITY DAY – August 26\, 2025 – National Today \n

SUMMARY:World Photography Day
DESCRIPTION:World Photo Day is on August 19th and it celebrates the day when the French government purchased the patent for the daguerreotype process. The daguerreotype process is a photographic process that creates highly detailed images on a sheet of copper plate with a thin coat of silver. \nThe day requires participants to share a photo of their world\, which can be anything the photographer chooses. The definition of photography is quite literally “drawing the light” and British scientist Sir John Herschel came up with it in 1839. He used the Greek word phōtós\, which means “light” and graphê which means “drawing or writing”. \nHow to Celebrate?\nWhether you are an amateur\, a professional\, or someone who spends most of his or her day taking phone pictures and sharing them with your social media followers\, World Photography Day is an easy holiday to celebrate. Here are some ways you can enjoy this day: \n\nLearn and read more about the history and science behind photography.\nIf you have always wanted to learn photography\, maybe today is the time to start taking lessons.\nIf you are a photographer\, why not volunteer your time to teach your craft and trade to others?\n\n#WorldPhotographyDay #SayCheese \n  \nSource: \nhttps://nationaltoday.com/world-photo-day/

SUMMARY:International Youth Day
DESCRIPTION:International Youth Day on August 12th focuses on the difficulties that some young people are experiencing throughout the world. Half the children between the age of six and 13 lack basic reading and math skills and childhood poverty is still a prevalent problem globally. \n#InternationalYouthDay was created by the UN to help draw awareness to these issues as we strive to find solutions. It’s a day for reflection but also a day for taking action so get involved. There’ll be many concerts\, workshops and cultural events taking place so have a look at what is happening in your local area. \nIt’s an initiative that honours the traits of young people and that acknowledges the challenges that today’s fledging youth face. To support the elimination of these issues it is important that the youth is able to reach the right resources for education\, wellbeing\, medicine and more. \nInternational Youth Day began in 2000 and was organised by the UN to recognise the input that young people make in education\, community development\, environmental groups\, volunteering for different social projects. \n  \nSource: International Youth Day (nationaltoday.com) \n

SUMMARY:World Breastfeeding Week
DESCRIPTION:#WBW2025 will focus on environment and climate change. It will highlight our roles in supporting breastfeeding to create a sustainable environment while simultaneously reducing the impact of climate change caused by artificial feeding. \n#Breastfeeding can act as an equaliser in our society and efforts must be made to ensure everyone has access to breastfeeding support and opportunities. It is essential that no-one is left behind especially vulnerable mothers who may need additional support to reduce breastfeeding inequalities. \nTarget audiences including governments\, policymakers\, workplaces\, communities and parents will be engaged to play their critical roles in empowering families and sustaining breastfeeding-friendly environments in the post-pandemic work life. The theme is aligned with thematic area 4 of the WBW-SDG 2030 campaign. \n\n\n\n\nWBW-SDG CAMPAIGN\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBreastfeeding is a natural\, renewable food that is environmentally safe. Breastfeeding is produced and delivered without pollution\, packaging or waste and is the sustainable solution that is good for the planet and its people. Prioritising and supporting breastfeeding will reduce the growing climate impact of artificial infant feed supply chains. However\, breastfeeding can be challenging when parents are not fully supported. WBW2025 will outline the roles and connect the actors in the Warm Chain of Support for Breastfeeding to create a breastfeeding-friendly environment together at all levels; national\, health\, workplace and community. By connecting the actors working at different levels\, a synergistic effort to support the parents will be in place. \n#EnablingBreastfeeding #EmpoweringParentsCampaign #BreastfeedingSupport \n\nSource: World Breastfeeding Week 2025 – Prioritise Breastfeeding: Create sustainable support systems

He was a human rights lawyer\, a prisoner of conscience\, and an international peacemaker. And he was the first democratically elected president of a free South Africa (no biggie). \nSo you see why the United Nations General Assembly would want to celebrate his life. \nCommemorated on July 18 — Nelson Mandela’s birthday — Nelson Mandela International Day celebrates the idea that each individual has the power to transform the world and the ability to make an impact.
