Leading Lights Education & Wellbeing
"We aim to transform the lives of young people facing severe educational disadvantage"
Leading Lights want to bring love to children and families’ services. We don’t think it’s enough to care a bit, you have to care a lot if you want to transform outcomes.
We provide imaginative, carefully curated and case managed programmes for children and families with social, emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH). We believe that education and wellbeing are fundamentally linked and you can’t change long term outcomes without looking at issues holistically. We work with the whole family as much as possible, and for us it’s about long-term change, not short term outcomes.
We are on a mission to ensure that no child or family has to lose out on a world of potential because of mental health, which means they can’t access school or find it hard to make friends. We might not be able to change the past, and we don’t have magic wands, but we do believe that every child and family has the right to get services designed and delivered for their individual needs, and with love and imagination.
We work with children and young people at both primary and secondary school age who are
impacted because of mental health. They often have a diagnosed mental health condition or are waiting for a diagnosis, and it is often correlated with a history of trauma or psychological distress, or another disability, learning need, or physical illness. Sometimes, they have not had a diagnosis but are experiencing significant degrees of anxiety and this has led to behavioural changes, self-harming or suicidal thoughts. Many of the children we work with are also affected by issues such as domestic violence, abuse, identity issues, bullying and many are young carers.
1. Improved mental health
2. Reduced social isolation
3. Increased ability to thrive at school.
Services we offer through our free specialist Glow Programmes which support young people impacted by mental health from age 5 onwards include:
Mentoring
Counselling
Family Support and Advocacy
Specialist Emotional Support for Crisis Periods and ongoing wellbeing support
Small Group Therapeutic Creative Arts Projects
Small Group Therapeutic Gaming Projects
We also provide contracted specialist Education and Wellbeing Packages for Children and Young
People Affected by Mental Health and SEND through Local Authorities and social services and other statutory bodies for those with EHCPs who need specialist packages of provision which generates revenue to support our Glow services and core costs, but also by supporting some of the most vulnerable children in society creates significant social impact towards our objectives.
