"Providing support for those bereaved by suicide"

Who We Help, Why We Help & the Difference It Makes

Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide exist to meet the needs and break the isolation experienced by those bereaved by suicide.  We are a self-help organisation and we aim to provide a safe, confidential environment in which bereaved people can share their experiences and feelings, so giving and gaining support from each other. We also strive to improve public awareness and maintain contacts with many other statutory and voluntary organisations.

We all respond differently to any sort of bereavement.  We are individuals who each had a unique relationship with the person who died.  There is no right or wrong way to feel.

When someone dies by suicide, it reaches out across the community like ripples on a pond.  Families and friends are devastated – and many more people are touched.  You do not have to have had a family or personal relationship – the loss of an acquaintance, colleague, client or even a stranger can affect you.

What We Do

Volunteers support all those affected or bereaved by suicide by providing a confidential, non-judgemental, listening service for however long it takes. Volunteers have all lost a loved one to suicide and understand the language surrounding a suicidal death. It helps to talk and by sharing our experience helps to remove the guilt and stigma and to learn that there is no right or wrong way to grieve following the tragic death of a loved one. It is useful to appreciate that it can take many years to come to terms with a suicidal death and to find a new normal.

Groups meet once a month, are open to anyone over 18, and offer a vital opportunity for people to meet with others who have been bereaved by suicide.
