Relate Bournemouth, Poole & Christchurch is a member of the Relate Federation which has a national network of 75 centres and is the UK's largest provider of relationship, family counselling and sex therapy. 

Relate’s role is to help people build better relationships

  • To enhance the quality of couple and parental family relationships.
  • To help relationships, marriages and civil partnerships withstand the pressures leading to breakdown.
  • To limit the damage which commonly accompanies failing relationships, separation and divorce and increase the prospect of subsequent relationships succeeding.

Relate aims to deliver its services with cultural sensitivity and without discrimination.

We offer a range of services to help you with your couple and family relationships, whether you're young or old, straight or gay, single or in a relationship. 

Couples Counselling 

Whether you're young or old, straight or gay, single or in a relationship, we can support you with issues surrounding your relationship 

Family Counselling 

We offer Family Counselling and Mediation Services. Whether you need a relationship health check, some support through separation or divorce, we are here for you. You might be a parent worried about your child's behaviour or how a divorce may impact on your family. You might be part of step-family and need help adjusting, or you may be arguing with parents or siblings and need support communicating with each other.


We offer Mediation services for couples/ families. Mediation offers the opportunity In the first instance, you will need to book in for a Mediation Information Assessment Meeting (MIAM). This can be followed by a Mediation session for any of the following: 

  • Child only Mediation 
  • Finance & Property only Mediation 
  • All Issues Mediation 
  • Child Consultation (where both parents are in agreement) 

All services are charged at competitive rates, with a qualified Family Mediator, registered with the College of Mediators.

Psychosexual Counselling

Sex Therapy 

An active sex life is often an important and enjoyable part of a healthy adult relationship. However, many people encounter sexual difficulties at some point in their lives. There are many physical and emotional reasons why this can happen. Family or work pressures, tiredness or illness, perhaps the arrival of a new baby, may all contribute to feelings of unease. Some people find that sexual problems don’t last long, but where a problem does persist, we can help. Sex therapy is available for couples and individuals, gay or straight, who have specific sexual difficulties, such as: loss of desire, erection difficulties, premature ejaculation, painful intercourse, difficulty reaching orgasm 

Sex Addiction Therapy 

Relate Bournemouth, Poole & Christchurch offer specialist Sex Addiction Therapy. If you know or think you may have a sex addiction, please contact us to arrange an initial consultation. Please let our team know that you would like a PST or Psychosexual Therapy assessment.

Workplace Counselling 

At Relate, we offer high quality 1:1 counselling, covering issues from anxiety, stress, depression, bereavement to relationship breakdown. Whilst all our Counsellors are qualified to deliver individual counselling, with their additional relationship expertise, we are uniquely placed to be able to support you and your family with whatever you may be going through. All our services are confidential and we will not share any information from the content of your counselling sessions with your employer. You are able to self-refer to our service by email or phone.

Support for Parents 

We offer bespoke 1:1 parenting training and support for separated parents, helping to keep the impacts of separation on your children as low as possible.

Children & Young People's Counselling 

Relate Bournemouth, Poole & Christchurch offer counselling services to children and young people from ages 6-25. Children and young people can be referred to our centre directly by a parent or guardian, or through their school with parental consent. We currently offer services in 5 schools across Bournemouth and Poole and hope to expand our schools work. We offer subsidies for families on low incomes as well as some school-funded sessions.

Individual Counselling 

As well as our 1:1 bespoke programmes, we also offer general counselling for both adults and young people, providing a safe space to explore relationship issues. Our Counsellors specialise in Relationship Counselling, but are also qualified to work with general issues such as anxiety, depression, loss and bereavement. We will offer you an assessment in the first instance to decide which service would best support you
