Who We Help, Why We Help & the Difference It Makes

Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) is the UK charity that supports those affected by conditions that can cause young sudden cardiac death. CRY provides bereavement support and funds fast-track expert pathology investigations at the CRY Centre for Cardiac Pathology. CRY raises awareness of signs and symptoms of cardiac conditions and supports young people diagnosed with life-threatening conditions through the myheart Network. CRY funds medical research and operates a nationwide cardiac screening programme for any person between the age of 14 and 35. CRY funds fast-track expert medical services at the CRY Centre for Inherited Cardiovascular Conditions and Sports Cardiology.

What We Do

CRY has many ambitious projects to enable it to provide the support and research to help save young lives.  Its programme of activities strives to prevent these tragedies through:

-  Our National Screening Programme

-  Funding medical research into young sudden cardiac death

-  Developing the CRY Centre for Inherited Cardiovascular Conditions and Sports Cardiology

-  Raising awareness of the risk of undetected cardiac conditions in young people

 

CRY also supports young people diagnosed with life-threatening cardiac conditions through:

-  the myheart Network

 

and those affected by young sudden cardiac death by:

-  Offering a fast-track expert cardiac pathology service through the CRY Centre for Cardiac Pathology

-  Providing a Bereavement Support Service to help those who have suffered a loss

-  Providing information and literature free of charge

Volunteer

 Thank you for your interest in volunteering for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY). We recognise the valuable contribution each individual makes, and without volunteers some of our services and events could not be offered.

Our aim is to make sure you have a rewarding experience volunteering with CRY and have the opportunity to meet new challenges, develop your skills, gain a great sense of achievement, and contribute towards CRY’s aim of saving young lives.

We have many volunteering opportunities including:

  • Help and support in the CRY office with many important tasks
  • Providing skills and expertise to ensure CRY is offering the best service it can
  • Support at CRY fundraising and support events to ensure the events can take part (eg: marshalling, photography, support at the venues)
  • Raising awareness in local communities - it is so very important to CRY that awareness is raised with the whole of the UK and this can only be possible with the help of our supporters
  • Using social media to help promote CRY's efforts to your own followers
