Every Parent & Child

"To enable children and young people with SEN and/or Disability to thrive and succeed."

Who We Help, Why We Help & the Difference It Makes

Every Parent & Child is a small local charity called Every Parent & Child (EPC), situated in Enfield. We have been operating in Enfield for over 22 years, supporting children and young people, predominantly with Special Educational Needs and or disability (SEND). Our charity has, over the years, built up a wealth of experience, knowledge, and expertise in providing high quality SEND support in our local area. We aim to advance the education of children in the London Borough of Enfield, who, because of difficulties in the school or home environment, require special assistance to help them complete their education.

Currently, we offer the SENDIAS (SEND Information and Advice Service), young people’s counselling service, a mentoring service and ‘Starfish’ - a project which supports primary school children with communication difficulties to improve their communication skills, life and learning. We are hoping to expand our services to increase our Young People’s participation in groups and volunteering, in order to alleviate some of the pressures on families. We find that our Young People are often in crisis at the point of transition from education into either further education or adult services.

We believe that small local providers, like ourselves, provide better-tailored services and keep the personal touch which is extremely important in terms of community and trust. We are able to work with our families and young people in personalised and holistic way, meeting the needs of our families, some of who come from the most marginalised in our society.

Our families are from a diverse range of backgrounds. The percentage of households without English as a first language was 21.4%. These communities are often under even greater pressures as they can often struggle with the forms and processes that are required to obtain adequate support.

Edmonton has been calculated to be the most deprived of the 21 wards in the Borough. In addition, the same analysis estimates that it is within the 10% most deprived wards in London, and among the 10% most deprived in England. This statistic means that our families rank as some of the most deprived in the country. The fact that £22 million has been cut from council youth service budgets across London since the 2011/12 financial year, means that small charities across the board are disappearing and hence the need for our support has become even more vital.
