Hospice Hope

"Providing pastoral care to people living with life limiting illness in North West Leicestershire"

Who We Help, Why We Help & the Difference It Makes

Many people in North West Leicestershire have sadly been diagnosed with a life limiting condition.  Figures from the last Census in 2011 revealed that 25% of households in North West Leicestershire contain a person with a long-term health problem or disability and these numbers are set to rise. People often struggle with the fact that the local NHS offers no day care provision to support them or their carers, nor pastoral support to cope emotionally with their changed medical situation.  There is without doubt an urgent need for care.

Since its inception in 2002, Hospice Hope has always recognised the need for pastoral care in the community.  To help fill this void, the charity runs four weekly Support Cafés in Ashby, Coalville / Whitwick, Ibstock and Castle Donington, where people and carers can drop-in for the afternoon, receive support, relax and meet new people.

In addition to this, since April 2017, Hospice Hope has offered further pastoral support at ‘Hope House’, Griffydam.  It is a place for the person with the life limiting condition, where we can offer a warm welcome, emotional support, complementary therapies, activities and a nutritious hot two course lunch, prepared in our own kitchen. Hope House is open 2 days a week from 10.30am to 3.30pm and guests are invited to attend on one of the two days. Whilst their loved ones are at Hope House, carers are able to take a well-earned break too.

What We Do

Hospice Hope consists of a main location and several regional support cafes.

Hope House offers a warm, friendly and comfortable welcome to around 8 to 10 local people each day, all of whom have a life limiting condition.  A volunteer driver will collect you from home and bring you to Hope House.  We offer a programme of activities that guests can take part in, if they wish.  A hot two course lunch will be served each day, and all the guests, staff and volunteers are encouraged to sit down together and enjoy the freshly cooked food from our kitchen at Hope House.  There are two designated quieter rooms at Hope House, where guests can either choose to relax on their own or with the company of one or two others.  These rooms will be also be used for confidential meetings, if you have a particular problem you wish to talk over.  Complementary therapies will be offered to each guest on a regular basis.  This is all free of charge.

Our regional support cafes offer respite to people living with life limiting illness and their carers.  You can access activities, support and complementary therapies during each cafe session.  The cafe days are as follow:

Castle Donington, The Hub 29th April 13:30-15.00;  Ibstock, Methodist Church, Melbourne Road on 28th May 13:00-15:00;  Coalville and Whitwick, Methodist Church, Hall Lane, Whitwick 26th June 13.30-15.00; Ashby, Legion House, Ashby 13.00-15.00

We are always on the look out for volunteers.  We have volunteer drivers, who take our guests from home to the support cafes and/or Hope House.  We also have volunteers who help run our support cafes and who help out at Hope House.  We also have volunteers who help out at community events, who network for us and circulate our cafe flyers.
