Challengers

"Breaking down the barriers to play for over 1400 disabled children and young people aged 2-25."

Who We Help, Why We Help & the Difference It Makes

We regret to inform you that all Challengers schemes will be closed for the foreseeable future due to the growing COVID-19 pandemic. We are extremely sorry for the inconvenience that this will cause. Please click here for more information

Our 24 schemes allow disabled children and young people the opportunity to play with their friends, have fun and most importantly challenge their impairments. Our work also allows parents a vital break from the huge demands that come with caring for a disabled child or young person.

Uniquely, our non-exclusion policy means that everyone is welcome at a Challengers scheme. We do not set geographical limits - play and leisure opportunities for disabled young people are few and disabled people seldom have a local resource. Families have expressed that the Challenger lifeline of support keeps them strong. Where others say no, Challengers says yes.

76% of parents and carers described Challengers as essential or significant to their family’s life, every penny raised would make a huge difference in being able to carry on providing this service.

What We Do

Play can consist of anything that you do to relax and have fun – this could be anything from sports or board games to reading and painting. This is an important part of life for everyone.

However, there are sometimes barriers that prevent us and many disabled children and their families from playing – from physical impairments to a lack of accessible play facilities or just simply a lack of time and support.

That's where Challengers comes in. Our vision is a world where all children and young people can play together, freely. Our mission is to provide truly inclusive, fun and safe places where all disabled children and young people can spend time with their friends.

To offer a positive impact for families and the wider community.

Our services allow disabled children and young people to challenge their impairments through play in a stimulating and safe environment. We do this by creating an atmosphere where self-expression, co-operation, learning and sharing are encouraged, nurtured and supported.

Volunteer

We would love your help to enable as many families as possible to access Challengers by removing any barriers they may face - but we simply cannot do this without support. The demand for Challengers' services for disabled children and young people across Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire grows daily. In fact, for every child that comes to scheme, there are an additional 3 young people on our waiting list.

Challengers would benefit from your generous support as we would like to maintain a culture that ensures we are the place to go for disabled children and young people. Your support could allow us to spread awareness for Challengers alongside deepening our services and to maintain this culture.

Additional Info

To ensure that it is a mutually beneficial partnership, you will be designated a member of our fundraising team who will work closely with you to create a fun and exciting relationship.

We would love to help by providing inspiration and ideas alongside fundraising materials such as balloons, collection tins and posters.

Additionally, we love to shout about those who support Challengers. Whether this is on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or LinkedIn, we would like everyone to know how others are breaking down the barriers to play for disabled young people.

At Challengers we have plenty of events throughout the year across Surrey and Hampshire that need the support from volunteers. We also have opportunities to volunteer on scheme with the young people and at our centres. We would be delighted to keep you up to date about these opportunities.

Finally, please do not hesitate to get in touch to arrange a tour at one of our centres. We would be delighted to show you first-hand the impact your support has on our disabled children and young people.
