World Horse Welfare - Norfolk

"Our vision is a world where every horse is treated with respect, compassion and understanding"

Who We Help, Why We Help & the Difference It Makes

World Horse Welfare (Registered charity no: 206658 and SC038384), is an international equine charity that improves the lives of horses in the UK and worldwide through education, campaigning and hands-on care.   Since we were founded in 1927, our whole approach has been practical, based on scientific evidence and our extensive experience, and focused on delivering lasting change across the full spectrum of the horse world.

Our mission is to work with horses, horse owners, communities, organisations and governments to help improve welfare standards and stamp out suffering in the UK and worldwide.

In the UK we have four Rescue and Rehoming Centres, based in Norfolk, Somerset, Lancashire and Aberdeenshire that take in horses rescued from every county.  Our dedicated network of UK Field Officers investigates and resolve welfare concerns and intervene when they find horses at risk.  Horses that subsequently need to come into our farms receive specialist care, undergo rehabilitation and go on to find loving new homes through our rehoming scheme – the largest of its kind in the UK. World Horse Welfare aim to rehome every horse that comes into the Charity’s care, freeing up space for another horse in need.

Internationally we curretnly work in 16 low - and middle- income countries where working horses still paly a fundamental role in people's livelihoods.

What We Do

We work across the UK with horses, horse owners, other charities, academia, the veterinary profession, sport bodies, law enforcement and government to improve welfare standards.

When World Horse Welfare is alerted to a horse in need, often through a call to the Charity’s welfare line, one of the Charity’s 16 field officers will investigate.  If it is not possible to help the horse or more commonly a group of horses, through advice and support, the horse(s) may be rescued and taken to one of our four Rescue and Rehoming Centres where they are nursed back to health.

Our Welfare Line takes calls from concerned members of the public to horse owners seeking help and advice.   Everything we do has horse welfare at heart and sometimes a simple bit of advice is all that is needed.
