Gloucester Foodbank

"We provide emergency food parcels to clients with a voucher obtained from an authorised agency"

Who We Help, Why We Help & the Difference It Makes

Gloucester Foodbank was launched in April 2005 as a franchisee of The Trussell Trust network of Foodbanks. Since then our emergency food parcel service has expanded from providing food only to include toiletries and baby products such as baby wipes and nappies. Since 2015 we have also been able to apply for fuel vouchers on behalf of clients needing food provided they have a pre-payment meter, hold a Gloucester Foodbank voucher and live within the Gloucester city area.

Our service is totally reliant on donations for our parcels and funds. Last year 58.7 tonnes of food and toiletries were donated by the general public.

In 2017/18 we provided 6,691 emergency parcels to local people in crisis need, 2,214 of these parcels went to children under 16. Each client was referred to us by an agency that holds our vouchers.

What We Do

To access support from Gloucester Foodbank clients need to obtain a voucher from one of over 120 partner agencies such as Gloucester Citizen's Advice, GL Communities, and Age UK. We serve all ages, faiths, and ethnicities. Each parcel provides a nutritionally balanced diet enough for 3 days plus toiletries. We ask clients if they have any allergies or food items they cannot eat and will if possible adapt the parcel to meet the needs of the client.

Clients will be offered a hot or cold drink and a biscuit while they wait for their parcel. If eligible we will apply for a fuel voucher on their behalf. In addition, we may be able to sign-post clients to another agency for further support.
