T.H.A.T. food bank
"Providing emergency food, toiletry and home start packs for individuals and families in crisis."
Did you know that 1 in 5 people in the UK are living below the poverty line? There are 2.3 million children living in poverty in this country and 63% of these are in a family in which someone works.
According to surveys, Teignbridge is the most deprived area in Devon and Buckland and Milber are "in the most deprived 10% of all areas in the country".
This is why charities like THAT are so important to our community. We aim to provide individuals and families living in poor conditions with much-needed support whilst working to eradicate deprivation and poverty. As well as packs we can supply, with a reference, meter key/card top ups, bus passes and informatio and referrals. In the current financial crisis we can help.
We aim to assist our clients by supplying them with essential items such as food, toiletries and home start packs and offering information, referrals for better future outcomes and a place to chat.
THAT provide high quality food packs put together from donated and bought food items. We include a large variety of foods and some basic toiletries in each pack. Each pack varies according to the client's needs and what we have in stock. Pet food and baby food are available for packs.
We also provide special packs for clients who are street homeless that contain items that can be prepared without the use of a cooker or kitchen equipment.
We now have fresh food available donated by supermarkets.
As well as Food packs, we also provide Home Start packs for clients who may be moving into a new home, supported lodgings, sheltered accommodation or a B&B but are not able to purchase essential household items.
Our Home Start packs include bedding, crockery (plates, bowls, knives and forks etc.), cleaning products, bathroom products, a kettle and toaster, and pots, pans and cooking equipment.
We also offer electricity and gas key top-ups
If you feel like you or someone you know would benefit from any of the services listed above

At THAT, we believe that the most effective way to alleviate poverty is by working with our clients to help tackle the underlying issues that are causing them financial difficulties.
Our volunteers are always happy to offer information for better outcomes to improve the lives of members of the community.
We can also help our clients take action and will refer clients to organisations who can help with issues that we can't.
Our volunteers are always happy to sit down for a friendly chat and a cup of tea if you have any questions or worries. Just drop by our shop.
We rely on our volunteers to keep THAT Food Bank running and without them we wouldn't be able to provide the support that many people in Teignbridge desperately need. We are a sociable and lively group.
If you would like to volunteer for us you download our contact form and drop it into us, or fill in our online form.
Don't have the time to volunteer? There are plenty more ways you can help us out. Do you have any household items you don't need or food that you know won't be eaten but is in date, why not donate it? We are thankful for anything you can spare!
You can also help by spreading the word about THAT and what we do. Do you know anyone who could use a bit of extra help? Maybe you know someone who is looking to do some voluntary work? Tell them about THAT! We are always happy to take on new clients and volunteers.
