Green Island Holiday Trust

"We provide supported holidays for people living with a disability or long term illness"

Who We Help, Why We Help & the Difference It Makes

We are a small Dorset based charity providing supported holidays for local people living with a disability. Every summer we create a touch of holiday magic by bringing together small groups of holidaymakers with teams of dedicated volunteers for a week of friendship and fun.

It has been great to get our holidays back up and running this summer after all the disruption caused by the pandemic. Holidaymakers have been enjoying their stay at Ellwood Cottages, our new holiday venue, whilst exploring the local area.

What We Do

Our Holidays

If you live with a disability and are in need of a break, our small group holidays could be what you're looking for. Held during the summer months, our holidays are based in fully accessible holiday accommodation, in the heart of the beautiful Dorset countryside.

A team of experienced volunteers will be on hand, to provide you with personalised care and support for the duration of your stay, so that you can enjoy your holiday to the full. As we provide the support, in addition to you having a holiday, your carer can benefit from a week's respite.

During your stay at Ellwood Cottages, you'll have a chance to make new friends, explore the local area, participate in activities and enjoy great food!

It has been great to resume our holidays this summer after all the disruption caused by the pandemic.  Our weeks are fully booked for this year but we'll be announcing our 2023 dates soon.

Volunteer

Our amazing volunteer team are the very heart of the Trust. It is because of their dedication that over the years we have been able to provide so many people with an exceptional holiday experience. Quite simply, without them our holidays would not happen.

If you would like to volunteer, you can help us in lots of different ways, depending on the time you have available.

Residential volunteers are an integral part of the holiday group, staying alongside the holidaymakers, sharing the whole holiday experience. As a residential volunteer, you will be on hand to help the holidaymakers with whatever is needed, for example  with their mobility, communication, or personal care. You will participate in the holiday activities and outings and spend a fair bit of time chatting and eating cake!

Other volunteers help with specific activities or tasks during the holiday weeks. As an activity volunteer you might lead an activity or entertainment session or lend a hand by driving a minibus.

Behind the scenes there are opportunities to help us with our fundraising and spreading the word about our activities.

How do I become a volunteer?

If you are interested in volunteering, please either call Wendy for a chat or complete an enquiry form on our website www.greenislandholidaytrust.com
