Who We Help, Why We Help & the Difference It Makes
Necessary Furniture makes a positive contribution to the welfare of disadvantaged people in our community through the re-distribution and reuse of many thousands of donated items of furniture and household goods. Since 1997 we have worked in partnership with similarly motivated charitable organisations and agencies. Necessary Furniture provides very affordable homeware direct to those in need a helping hand, and training and work experience for unemployed people that leads into worthwhile jobs. Every year Necessary Furniture saves hundreds of tonnes of good quality and perfectly usable furniture from becoming landfill.

If you live in the Canterbury, Thanet, or Ashford districts of Kent, please use the contact page on the Necessary Furniture website to donate your unwanted items of furniture and household goods. Alternatively, please call us on 01227 712680 to arrange a free collection time. In particular, Necessary Furniture always needs serviceable white goods e.g. fridges, fridge freezers, electric cookers and washing machines.Donated household goods should be (a) clean and serviceable on collection – in a good condition which a reasonable person would be content to use or, (b) could quickly be restored to such a condition or, (c) have potential value for sale in support of our work.Necessary Furniture needs to ensure that donations are safe and sound, and that they comply with statutory requirements e.g. in respect of fire retardants in soft furnishings and that electrical goods work safely. We undertake to ensure that collections and deliveries are made within one week of acceptance.
