PowerWood project CIC
"PowerWood supports neurodiverse individuals & families with intensity, sensitivity + hyperreactivity"
PowerWood C.I.C is the UK’s leading not-for-profit, community driven, social venture committed to raising awareness of neurological diversity as a positive force for change in society.
PowerWood aims at improving the emotional wellbeing of families and individuals living with intensity, hyper-sensitivity and super-reactivity.
Psychologists refer to these combined traits as ‘overexcitability’ (OE). Having this increased sensitivity, awareness and intensity makes a real difference to how life is experienced. These positive personality traits may bring above-average energy, pleasure, enjoyment, creativity, interests and empathy. OE also often comes with the deep urge to make the world a better place for everyone.
Neurodiverse children and individuals need understanding, strategies and tools to enable them to direct their energy towards self-chosen goals and become a respected contributor to their community
PowerWood likes to provide all these opportunities with the goal of producing lifelong learners who are well-educated, self-confident, happy and positively contributing members of society.
PowerWood is dedicated to helping families, their children and teenagers with overexcitabilities to improve their self-control, self-esteem and pleasure in life. PowerWood works to help children and their families recognise and understand overexcitability. Young people are encouraged to embrace the positives that accompany it, such as creativity, energy and the ability to think outside the box. PowerWood also teaches coping mechanisms to help these sensitive and intense children find happiness and a sense of belonging.
PowerWood supports families with non neuro-typical and overexcitable (OE) individuals leading to more harmonious family life, where people are able to fulfil their passions and dreams.
For those families, we aim for
PowerWood enables children, teenagers, young adults, adults, parents and families from all cultures to meet others facing similar challenges.
PowerWood is organising fun and informative events for families with intense, sensitive ‘over-excitable’, (more) able children and teenagers. These include Coffee mornings where parenting issues can be discussed and Workshops for Parents, Carers and Professionals.
Events held within a safe and friendly environment can empower and energize development of necessary skills. Where possible, these events are held in rural surroundings where contact with the natural world offers an extra sense of leisure and pleasure.
PowerWood invites you to become part of the PowerWood community.

Multilevel Emotion Regulation Theory (MERT) is a holistic theory developed by Simone de Hoogh. The theory explains how neurodiverse (young) individuals and parents of neurodiverse children can develop emotional regulation skills and direct their energy towards self-chosen goals, and contribute to society.
*Booking a one-off Free Introductory Talk of 45-60 minutes by Skype or FaceTime with Senior Consultant Simone de Hoogh is one of the benefits of being either a FreeBee PowerWood Community Member or a Friend PowerWood Community Member.
OE (Overexcitability) is an element of a Developmental Theory –Theory of Positive Disintegration by Dabrowski- that is one of the underpinning theories of MERT (Multi-level Emotion Regulation Theory) developed by Simone de Hoogh. Overexcitability explains and allows us to look at ‘extreme’ behaviour as a valuable asset in our or our children’s life.Click here to find out if your child has Over Excitability
