Pete's Dragons

"Supporting those affected by suicide in Devon, Plymouth or Torbay"

Who We Help, Why We Help & the Difference It Makes

Call us crazy, we'll admit, we're a little off our rocker with passion for making sure those that are experiencing suicide loss are supported.  That's just what happens when you get a team of people that have experienced the aftermath first-hand working together towards making sure that all those affected by suicide in Devon, Plymouth & Torbay have access to timely and appropriate support. We are honest, brave, vibrant and a little bit sweary... so we will come straight out and say it - losing someone to suicide is just so totally devastating and exhaustingly shit. We know, we've been there. We know that as families, partners and friends adapt to the world without their loved one, we might be initially able to help in a number of smaller, practical and meaningful ways, such as: practical advice, comforting hampers, financial assistance, holistic therapies and family fun days. We also know that psychological and therapeutic support must be timely, appropriate and carried out by professionals and we work hard to ensure we have a range of quality therapists and specialists within our team to provide their support.

What We Do

Our Services

Everyone affected by suicide will have a unique experience through the grieving process and it is extremely important that timely and appropriate support is available. Pete’s Dragons provide a bespoke service to anyone in Devon who has been affected in this way.

How can we help?

  • Provide a resource pack tailored specifically to your needs

  • We offer a listening service which can be through face-to-face visits, over the telephone or even by email, whichever is right for you

  • Offer practical advice and assistance on issues such as: how to inform others of the death, dealing with the media, wills and probate, applying for benefits, funeral arrangements, inquest advice and support and/or anything else that is causing concern

  • Source and liaise with other appropriate support services to ensure that you get the right help for you just when it is really needed

  • Children and family fun days designed to bring together those with a shared experience and send a clear message that it is ok to smile, have fun and enjoy what life has to offer.

  • Regular 8 week Grief Recovery courses which teach small and correct steps to resolve grief and say goodbye to the pain, isolation and loneliness caused by significant emotional loss.

  • Bereavement Counselling at Dragon HQ or another convenient location as required.

  • Mindfullness through play.

  • Regular workshops and learning events focused towards emotional and physical wellbeing.

We also offer Christmas Hug in a Hamper and Comfort Grant options to both break through the stigma and isolation often felt after a suicide and assist those in financial distress.
