Pete's Dragons

"Supporting those affected by suicide in Devon, Plymouth, Torbay & North Somerset"

Who We Help, Why We Help & the Difference It Makes

Suicide bereavement has been described as “grief with the volume turned up”. The effects on families, communities and society as a whole are devastating and tragic. Pete’s Dragons provide a bespoke service to anyone in the county of Devon who has been impacted in this way. We also run an additional peer-support group for North Somerset residents.

Call us crazy, we'll admit, we're a little off our rocker with passion for making sure those that are experiencing suicide loss are supported. That's just what happens when you get a team of people that have experienced the aftermath first-hand working together towards making sure that those bereaved by suicide have access to timely and appropriate support

What We Do

Devon, Plymouth & Torbay

Our services are available to all age groups and an individual does not have to be bereaved in the strictest sense - we understand that anyone can be impacted by suicide, whether it was the death of a friend, colleague, service user or someone you did not know. We do not offer a set package or have any time limits, the service received is tailored solely to individual needs.

How can we help?

  • Provide a resource pack tailored specifically to your needs

  • We offer a listening service which can be through face-to-face visits, over the telephone or even by email, whichever is right for you

  • Offer practical advice and assistance on issues such as: how to inform others of the death, dealing with the media, wills and probate, applying for benefits, funeral arrangements, inquest advice and support and/or anything else that is causing concern

  • Source and liaise with other appropriate support services to ensure that you get the right help for you just when it is really needed

  • Children and family fun days designed to bring together those with a shared experience and send a clear message that it is ok to smile, have fun and enjoy what life has to offer.

  • Regular 8 week Grief Recovery courses which teach small and correct steps to resolve grief and say goodbye to the pain, isolation and loneliness caused by significant emotional loss.

  • Bereavement Counselling at Dragon HQ or another convenient location as required.

  • Mindfullness through play.

  • Regular workshops and learning events focused towards emotional and physical wellbeing.

Additional Info

Pete’s Dragons was established in 2010 after Diva Dragon’s little brother, Pete, took his own life aged 24. Starting as a fundraising group, the band of dragons grew and grew. In 2014, after realising that Devon was without specialist postvention support, the decision was taken to become a registered charity to do just that. The dragon team are now specialists in the field of postvention/suicide bereavement and suicide prevention. As well as supporting those impacted by suicide, the Charity offers an extensive range of training including ASIST and SafeTALK We even bring our passion for mental wellbeing to the high street in our Exmouth-based boutique Retail Therapy.
