Watford Mencap works with people with learning disabilities, their families and carers. We believe that people with a learning disability have the right to enjoy equal opportunities and be valued as members of society, enabling them to lead the life they want for themselves.
Watford Mencap are able to offer accommodation for people with Learning Disabilities in South West Hertfordshire both in residential care and supported living
Learning skills through drama and role play to gain in confidence and to speak up about matters that are important to you.

People with a learning disability can need support with a variety of things. You might need support with budgeting, healthy eating, shopping, going out to do things or using public transport. Some people might have parents or carers who help, but would still like to have other people to support them. Our services can help.
Learning and Leisure provides social, leisure and educational opportunities for adults to enjoy group activities.
Monthly social events include canal trips, pamper sessions, sports days, art and crafts, clubs such as pool and bowling and learning sessions such as cookery, IT & music.

Our Children’s Services are based in North Watford but also use local community facilities. We have a variety of fun activities for all children, whatever their learning disability.
Our fully accessible Centre has a playroom, a chill out room, a large soft-play area, a large sensory room, a fully accessible kitchen as well as an all-weather outdoor play area. We also have a Changing Places toilet which is available to use when the centre is open.
Evening Activities for children aged 5- 19 run three days a week during term time, on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. We offer a variety of fun activities for all children whatever their learning disability. Sessions last 3 hours and a healthy dinner is served to everyone.
We run a variety of activities throughout all of the school and college holidays. Activities take place both in our centre and out in the community for all children and young people whatever their learning disability
We run sessions on a Saturday during term time for children aged 5-19 with a learning disability. These sessions are part of the Hertfordshire's Short Break Local Offer so hours can be used or alternatively sessions can be purchased using direct payments. The core day starts at 11am and finished at 3pm, but you can choose to add an hour before or after if you wish. Children bring a packed lunch and are encouraged to eat with others.
Our youth club is for young people aged 13-19 whatever their learning disability. The club runs from 6pm until 9pm on Fridays during term time and there is a tuck shop.
The activities we offer vary each term, an activities calendar will be sent out in advance. We offer a range of fun activities including sports, arts and crafts, baking, games nights, film nights and much more!
The club costs £6 but there will be an additional cost for certain activities. Dates are available on our calendar but all attendances must be booked in advance.
The transition from child to young person brings lots of changes and a desire to be more independent which can be particularly hard for parents and carers. We have a range of services for young people aged 14 – 25 that can offer support to you as well as the young person, as they move from Children’s into Adults services.

Caring for someone with a learning disability brings many challenges. At Watford Mencap we aim to help parents and carers to meet these challenges through a range of services
The Cafe in the in the Library is a new and exciting way for Watford Mencap to provide support and services to people with a learning disability and their families in Watford, Three Rivers and Hertsmere.
The cafe is also mentoring and supporting trainees to learn and develop new skills in catering, customer services and hospitality
Why not come and try our excellent coffee or one of our delicious cakes.We have a range of sandwiches and soup for your lunch so why not pop in!
We are in Watford Central Library and open 9.30 - 5pm weekdays opening weekend soon.
