Worcestershire Association of Carers

"Empowering carers to make informed choices that positively influence their lives"

Who We Help, Why We Help & the Difference It Makes

We know from the 2011 census that there are over 63,000 carers in Worcestershire. Since that date we also know that the amount of people caring is increasing. A carer could be someone looking after a friend, relative, loved one, parent, child, neighbour or other person they know that could not cope  without their support. Carers could be supporting someone with an illness, mental health condition, disability, addiction, frailty, palliative condition or a child with additional needs. They could be caring as little as an hour a week or over 50 hours a week. Our mission is to find and support those carers, enhance their lives and empower them with the decisions they make. Supporting carers to carry on caring is exactly why we have been around for over 20 years.

What We Do

We offer a helpline that is open 9am-7pm Monday to Friday and Saturday morning from 9am -12pm. We produce a newsletter three times per year packed full of useful carer information.

We run Caring with confidence sessions designed to support carers in their caring role, including legal and financial sessions, moving with confidence, caring and dementia and various other sessions.

We have over 13 carer groups across the county including a crafty carers and carers choir so that carers can meet others, feel less isolated and take some time out for themselves.

We run health and wellbeing sessions for carers so that they can look after their own wellbeing, improve mindfulness, understand food for mood and we run mental health sessions and sessions that are designed just for parent carers and some just for men.

We have events like carers breakfasts which is an opportunity for carers to meet up and feel less isolated, share their stories or just take some time out.

We put on events and offer carers pampering, days out, sporting opportunities and support for their caring roles.

We can support and guide carers on their individual situations and have dedicated carer pathway advisors who can work with carers in a 1:1 situation to help improve and support their situations.

We have a dedicated palliative care team to support carers that are looking after someone in the last few months (or weeks, or days) of life.
