"Enabling children to help less fortunate children, empowering both for their future life adventures"

Who We Help, Why We Help & the Difference It Makes

"When I was small I loved my pencil case. It opened up my mind’s eye. Today pens and pencils still play a crucial part in the lives of me and my friends. We’ve got jobs of all descriptions, which were started thanks to the creative ideas and doodles from our first felt tips.

Recently it dawned upon me that not all children are lucky enough to have a pencil case. I hope I have found a way of helping this problem and nourishing a bit of untapped potential."

Jeremy Houghton, Artist & Founder

Heart Felt Tips is an initiative that organises for children who are suffering economic hardship to receive pencil cases packed with pens and other art supplies: creative tools that they all too often lack.

We have helped children throughout the UK usually through Trussell Trust Foodbanks, Children’s  Charities, Faith Centres, and Womens Refuges

We recommend that you watch the video here which explains why we do what we do and how it all works.

What We Do

We do not fit the 'conventional' model of a charity that provides support directly to the end users of the service

Helping You to Help Others

The pencil cases are filled by children at schools and clubs, and then distributed via frontline food banks and faith centres, ensuring that the most deserving kids receive them quickly.

Please see How You Can Help Us for more details on how you can help us help them.

Encouraging Social Responsibility

Along with teaching the importance of recycling and donating Heart Felt Tips also helps build empathy, enabling the luckier children who help by filling the cases to understand that there are people in their local community who are no different to them but in need of extra support.

Volunteer

Parents & Children

  1. You will be given an empty pencil case to take home.
  2. Please fill it with new or recycled good quality stationery that you may have at home. Try and include some colours (felt tips or crayons), a pencil, pen, a small ruler, rubber and sharpener.
  3. Any other goodies (paperclips, glue, highlighters etc.) would also be gratefully received.
  4. The most important thing is that the pencil case is full of a variety of perfect stationery that every child would be excited to receive. Please do not donate blunt or broken stationery, sweets or sharp items.
  5. Return your pencil case to your teacher.

Schools

  1. Contact Heart Felt Tips [email protected] and tell them how many children you have who could each fill a pencil case.
  2. Heart Felt Tips will then send you the empty pencil cases and locate your local charity or foodbank.
  3. Distribute the pencil cases to your students, usually via class teachers, perhaps just before a weekend or half term.
  4. Write to parents giving them a clear return date.
  5. Emphasise the importance of giving very good, new or nearly new stationery. This might be a good opportunity to talk to the children about respect, recycling and how everyone deserves the best you can offer.  Feel free to use the video from our website to show your children.
  6. Once the full pencil cases have been returned to the class teacher, each pencil case must be checked to make sure it is full of appropriate stationery. If two pencil cases come back half full, make one full one out of the two.
  7. The pencil cases will then need to be delivered to your nominated charity – Heart Felt Tips are on hand to advise who will accept them.

Charities

  1. Contact Heart Felt Tips at [email protected] and let them know you would like to receive some loaded pencil cases.
  2. Heart Felt Tips will then find a local school or club and establish a potential relationship.
  3. All being well, after 4-6 weeks a box of loaded pencil cases will be delivered to the charity or foodbank by the school.
  4. The loaded pencil cases are then yours to distribute to families whose children could do with a lift.

Thank you so much! By helping you have added some brightness to some little lives desperately in need of extra colour.

Note to Parents & Schools

Quality is obviously important to Heart Felt Tips and unchecked pencil cases reflect badly on both us and your school. Please help us by checking your child’s filled pencil case to ensure no rubbish or broken items are sent to the children’s charity. Many thanks.
