Widnes Foodbank

"Emergency food for local people in crisis"

Who We Help, Why We Help & the Difference It Makes

“The foodbank was there when we really needed it, it was an absolute lifeline.”

We don’t think anyone in our community should have to face going hungry. That’s why we provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to us in crisis. We are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.

What We Do

FOODBANK VOUCHERS

We know that anyone can find themselves at crisis point for a number of different reasons. In order to provide the most appropriate help for the circumstances of your situation we work with local agencies. If they feel you are struggling to put food on the table, they will issue you with a foodbank voucher. The local agency can also provide long term support if needed to help address some of the issues behind the reasons for your crisis.

Our foodbank works with a number of different agencies, such as Citizens Advice, children’s centres and health visitors. Please see the list here for agencies who are able to issue foodbank vouchers.

This voucher can then be exchanged for a food parcel at one of our centres where one of our volunteers will provide a warm welcome whilst we prepare a food parcel.

All food parcels provided by Widnes Foodbank are nutritionally-balanced and contain enough food to last for three days.

Our foodbank centres replicate a cafe-style environment, where volunteers will greet clients as they enter the centre, and will then sit with the client at a table. The client is free to discuss any concerns regarding their situation, and volunteers may be able to signpost the client to another agency for further relevant support.

DONATE FOOD

Our foodbank relies on your goodwill and support.

Over 90% of the food distributed by foodbanks in The Trussell Trust  network is donated by the public – that’s why your food donations are absolutely vital to our ability to give everyone referred to us a balanced and nutritious three day supply of food.

Our shopping list here shows the food items that we need right now.

If you are happy to drop off food donations, please see the table here for our food collection point locations:
