Who We Help, Why We Help & the Difference It Makes
Our branch has been supporting people in the local area, and nationwide, for over forty years. Volunteers come from all walks of life, with a wide age range, and spend three hours a week in our centre supporting all kinds of people who need a confidential, non-judgmental ear to listen at a tough time in their life. As well as contacting us by phone, we have email support and face to face at the centre.
We also work with a wide range of other groups in Somerset including Cruse, Yeovil District Hospital, local schools.

What happens when you contact us
1. A volunteer will answer
If you phone us, we answer with something like ‘Samaritans, can I help you?’.
With text, email, letter and face-to-face visits, how we respond to you depends on what you say.
2. You talk, we listen
We listen to you and help you talk through your concerns, worries and troubles.
We’ll focus on your thoughts and feelings rather than going into the details, so we may ask questions to help explore how you feel.
