Who We Help, Why We Help & the Difference It Makes
Did you know - we help over 4,200 local older people every year, offering information, advice, activities, befriending and support.
Our mission is to promote the well-being of all older people and to help make later life a fulfilling and enjoyable experience. Values and principles underpin what we do, why we do it, and guide how we work to achieve our mission. Our underlying principles are:
- Ageism is unacceptable: we are against all forms of unfair discrimination, and challenge unfair treatment on grounds of age.
- All people have the right to make decisions about their lives: we help older people to discover and exercise these rights.
- People less able to help themselves should be offered support: we seek to support older people to live their lives with dignity.
- Diversity is valued in all that we do: we recognise the diversity of older people and their different needs, choices, cultures and values.It is only through working together that we can use our local, regional and national presence to the greatest effect.
We get some lovely feedback from the hundreds of people we help in Torbay every year. Here is a small selection:

Care & Support Services
- Home Support Service - Need a helping hand with every day tasks? Home Support can help. We provide friendly support in your own home, with the same carer visiting every week.
- Befriending service - Befriending and Careline volunteers visit people in their homes and keep in touch by phone, supporting older people as a good friend might.
- Companionship - Our companionship service provides support for older people.
Wellbeing
We offer the following Wellbeing services in Torbay:
- Ageing Well - Ageing Well Torbay is a six year programme to tackle isolation and loneliness amongst people over 50 living in Brixham, Paigton and Torquay.
- Men Roc - Men Roc is for men over 50 in Torbay. They meet every Thursday for refreshments, films, games and a chat.
- The Lunch Bunch - Our Wellbeing coordinators arrange for people to meet for lunch once a month at a local venue.

Become a Member
Membership of Age UK Torbay is available to anyone 50+ in Torbay, and is free of charge. We already have over 1,000 members in Torbay, but there are over 60,000 older people living in Torbay that we can help. Our aim is to generate new members and involve as many people as possible in our events and activities.
