West Berkshire Libraries - Hungerford Library

"Bringing ideas, imagination, information and knowledge to people’s lives and communities"

Who We Help, Why We Help & the Difference It Makes

We offer free access to thousands of items: books, audiobooks, eBooks and e-Magazines, maps and more. We also provide a wide range of online resources, all available free of charge to library members.

Like all West Berkshire Libraries, we run numerous events and activities for all the family, and staff are on hand to help you find anything you need.

Our libraries act as community hubs, bringing people from towns and rural communities together in safe and welcoming environments, and are regularly used by those looking for company and support, helping to tackle social isolation and loneliness.

Our At Home library service meets the needs of people who cannot travel to their local library, taking books directly to them and often providing company and support.

In addition, we provide access to resources, information about local health and wellbeing services, host healthy lifestyle events and activities and work with health organisations to provide support services and encourage and promote positive health and wellbeing. For some health conditions, GPs and other health professionals may prescribe a book from our special 'reading well' collection. But you can also borrow these books without a prescription. you'll find full details about them in the library.

Our friendly library team will be available to help you to find and use the services you need.

Please note that our libraries aren't open on Bank Holidays (including Good Friday) but you can still access our e-Library and many online resources when we are closed.

Volunteer

Volunteers Welcome!

We rely on our volunteers to help provide our At Home library visits, one-to-one IT support, assist with community events and library activities for children and families, and with day-to-day tasks such as shelving returned books. We also need extra help during the school summer holidays, when we run our annual Summer Reading Challenges for all ages.

If you would be interested in giving some of your time to volunteer at any West Berkshire library, we would love to hear from you.

Please contact you local library for more information or speak to our Volunteers Officer: 01635 519533 or email [email protected].
