South Devon Singers
"We are a community choir. No auditions or experience necessary. Very welcoming and friendly."
We hope that you will enjoy singing with us. We are very friendly group. There are no auditions and all abilities and levels of experience are welcome.
Our events
We perform at a hugely varied number of events throughout the year.
They range from more formal concerts, of which there are two to three each year (or two to three pairs of concerts – we tend to perform the main ones both in the Ivybridge area and in the Teignmouth area), to Christmas gigs in pubs and nursing homes, outdoor events to mark the opening of an orchard or a countryside park, supporting schools, especially Ford Primary School in Plymouth, and many more.
We make the most of opportunities to sing in unusual places (such as the National Marine Aquarium or the Norman Lockyer Observatory) or places of significance to the music we are performing (such as Launceston Town Hall to mark the centenary of the birth of the Cornish poet Charles Causley).
Joining a choir means joining a group of friends. We are particularly interested in welcoming new people, we give lots of help to those who have never been in a choir before. We have a number of people with disabilities in our choirs and are thoughtful in ensuring that locations for our rehearsals and events are disability friendly.
Choirs are very good for people who are struggling with isolation or low mood. As one of our members once said "It's hard to feel miserable when you're singing".
South Devon Singers is the charity name for two community choirs - based in Teignmouth and Ivybridge and a community Opera Company. There is opportunity for a range of singing styles as well as help with putting on events.
South Devon Singers has been responsible for the Teignmouth Classical Music Festival for eight years, this year there are some 14 events across three weekends organised. Plenty of help required.

There are often additional rehearsals when performances are coming up
