CAG Devon

"Supporting communities to reduce, reuse, recycle, share, mend, compost and be all round sustainable."

Who We Help, Why We Help & the Difference It Makes

Community Action Groups (CAG) Devon is here to support and empower community groups to act towards a more sustainable future.

We provide our members with support for insurance (where needed),  guidance, and training, and provide opportunities for networking and sharing skills with other groups.

Our focus is primarily on the areas of waste reduction, composting, sharing, re-use and repair.

Since 2016 we've supported groups in Mid Devon and Teignbridge.  From 2023 we are able to support groups across Devon.

Collectively, CAG Devon groups are taking on a range of waste-busting and sustainability activities, including:

  • Food surplus food cafés
  • Community fridges and larders
  • Composting workshops
  • Apple days
  • Repair cafes
  • Clothes swaps, and swaps of just about anything!
  • Jumble trails and ‘give or take’ events
  • Information stations
  • Beach cleans and litter picks
  • Craft workshops for making items like reusable shopping bags, make-up wipes and face masks

Our groups often take part in other activities too, encouraging their communities to move towards a more sustainable future. Activities like tree planting and creating wildflower gardens, cycling activities, renewable energy initiatives, working with their local town or parish councils on sustainability planning, and putting on film screenings, talks or networking events. Some are involved with initiatives like the Transition Network, or Plastic Free Communities.

The majority of our groups are voluntary groups, although some are working towards becoming social enterprises.

What We Do

We provide members of our network with  support getting insurance, guidance, and training, and provide opportunities for networking and sharing skills with other groups, including our Collaborate sessions, and CAG Conversations. We also have an annual gathering open to all, wherever you are.

If you want to join a group and get involved in some practical action which will help the environment, get in touch and we can tell you if we've any groups in your area, and put you in touch.

If you are just setting up and want support around constitutions, good ideas for activities, possible small grant towards insurance for some activities, join with like minded folk,  we can help.

You can sign up for our newsletter here and find out about what our groups are up to, and other local news around sustainability and community action.   We don't share your details with anyone.
