Community Project

South Devon Food Alliance

"Our Alliance brings together groups who are delivering food to doorsteps or within local communities"

Who We Help, Why We Help & the Difference It Makes

Food has been the most urgent need during Covid-19 and our community food providers now recognise that many people and families are facing financial hardship and the provision of food will remain a priority. Teignbridge CVS supports the South Devon Food Network, bringing 21 community food providers together to support our residents. Our food network brings together community providers of food for those who are affected by both the affordability and availability of food and of a healthy diet.  It is important that we ensure people can access a healthy diet and sufficient food to secure the health of themselves and their families and households.

What We Do

The Alliance brings together groups who are doing everything they can to safely deliver food onto the doorsteps or within local communities of those who are most at risk and is a great example of organisations coming together to help people who need it most.

During Covid-19, all of these organisations have innovatively adapted their services to support people, particularly those most affected by the pandemic.

Many of these organisations offer other services such as advice on financial planning or accessing benefits.

Volunteer

The South Devon Food Alliance is open to VCSE organisations and local growers donating to them to support local people with healthy and nutritional food – either  through a food bank/pantry/larder/fridge, hot or pre cooked meals, food parcels/packs , cookery workshops etc.

The Alliance has a thriving WhatsApp group where food pick ups and local surpluses are shared across the network, training, funding and other relevant information is disseminated. There are also bimonthly network meetings.

We are currently working on recipes that can go out with food packs.

If you would like to join the South Devon Food Alliance please do contact us for our terms of reference and more information.
