Who We Help, Why We Help & the Difference It Makes

Diverse Abilities is Dorset's disability charity - and the only organisation helping both children and adults with profound physical and learning disabilities. 

We support more than 1,500 people every year across our wide range of services including:

  • Langside School, a specialist school for children aged 2 to 19
  • Coping with CHAOS, play sessions for the whole family
  • Shapes, domiciliary care for children
  • Project, activities for children aged 8 to 18
  • STARs, support for the SEN siblings
  • Lily's Place, a respite home for children
  • Awesome Nights, our weekly youth club for teenagers
  • Lawford Lodge, a respite home for young adults
  • Transitions, a support service for moving into Adult Social Services
  • The Beehive, a day activity and therapy centre for adults
  • Supported Living Servce, care in the home 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
  • Advice Team, helping with benefit appeals, applications, legal documentation

What We Do

Our support is completely person-centred, and it is our aim to ensure that everyone is able to live extraordinary lives for as long as they need our services.

Volunteer

As a charity, we rely on the support of our community to continue providing excellent standards of care. You could join one of our fundraising events (or create your own!), take on a new challenge, volunteer as part of our fundraising team or in our services, or become a micro-volunteer and complete small tasks from the comfort of your own home!
