Digital Boost
"Connecting small businesses and charities with volunteer experts for personalised advice and support"
Our mission is simple – to make business mentorship and personalised support easily available to all small businesses and charities. We’re combining the power of technology with the kindness of people to make that happen.
Digital Boost, owned by the charity Founders4Schools, was founded in 2020 in the midst of the Covid-19 crisis. We wanted to help small businesses and knew that many others did too.
Starting and running a small business can be a hard and sometimes lonely road. Finding the right support can be overwhelming and restrictive.
We set out to make that journey easier by creating a new type of small business mentoring and support that’s tailored, flexible and free for all.
Our smart technology platform easily matches entrepreneurs to the most relevant business mentors, content and learning for the specific business challenges they’re facing in the moment.
If you work at a small business or charity and need support, you can benefit from free 1:1 online conversations with expert volunteers. The volunteer can provide you with personalised practical help and advice, as well as tips and recommendations for resources.
1-to-1 sessions are 60 minutes long, free and unlimited, as long as you continue to adhere to our community code of conduct guidelines. You will also benefit from personalised recommendations for workshops, resources and short courses linked to the topics you want to learn about.
Digital Boost is owned by a charity. It is 100% free for our small business and charity users. The cost of providing our services is covered by partnering with corporates and governments.
All of our mentors are volunteers. They have deep experience in a wide range of subjects and have chosen to give up their time to help small businesses and charities. They work for large organisations like Google, BT and NatWest Group, but also smaller organisations and as freelancers.

We need people with skills, passion, and purpose! Our volunteers come from a wide range of businesses big and small. They work in many different types of roles, from IT, product development and marketing to legal, customer service, and HR. The level of the individual doesn’t matter, though typically we would recommend that you have 3+ years experience in the topic you will mentor in.
The service is for anyone who works for a charity or a business with less than 250 employees. They come from a wide range of sectors and from all over the country. Most of our mentees are based in the UK, but we do have some from outside the UK. You can let us know if you’d prefer not to mentor people from other countries.
We have 70 different topics that people need help with. When you register, you let us know which of those you have experience with and would feel comfortable helping small businesses and charities with. Be realistic about which ones you are genuinely an expert in!
Each session lasts 60 minutes and there is no minimum commitment. The beauty of Digital Boost is that it’s highly flexible - you choose which requests to accept, based on your schedule. You tell us how many hours you’d be open to volunteering each week and we’ll send you requests that you can accept, propose a new time for, or decline.
Most of our volunteers really enjoy using their skills to help businesses or charities in need. You will play an important role in driving inclusive economic recovery and can choose to help businesses and charities linked to things you are passionate about. You will also be able to expand your own network and acquire new skills - such as leadership, collaboration, coaching, teaching and communication!
Digital and business experts volunteer on a pro bono basis. You do not get paid as a mentor from Digital Boost nor from the organisations you mentor. It is prohibited to inquire about pay from the organisations you mentor.
