Friendly Fridays
"Free Multi-generational Drop-In every Fri 10 am - 2 pm (Fully Accessible, Dog Friendly)"
Friendly Fridays was created to improve the mental wellbeing of residents of the SK3 area of Stockport by providing education and activities based on the 5 ways to wellbeing; give, connect, learn, be active and take notice.
For example we have helped single mums new to the area connect with other mums and older people in our community who can offer sanctuary, wisdom and a hug if needed!
People who feel lonely and isolated enjoy a chat and a brew with others, make new friends and then meet up outside of Friendly Fridays. They get invited to go to other social groups and activities.
Older people who miss having little ones around or dogs get to see our babies grow to toddlers and have a little bit of pet therapy from the dogs that come to Friendly Fridays.
We provide activities every Friday to do, a community jigsaw, arts and crafts, puzzles, themed events and so on.
We can help you meet new people, feel part of a community, make new friends, provide a space where you can be you. We are fully accessible and welcome all mental capabilities (please note vulnerable adults and children must be accompanied by a suitable, supervising adult).
Imagine a big family room, where you make your own brews and drinks, grab a snack, play a board game, do a jigsaw, draw, paint (or other creative tasks) read a newspaper or magazine, watch your little one enjoy a soft play area and more. Plus we back directly onto a park with a multi-use games area and kids playground. There is plenty of space to run around or sit on a bench with a cuppa in the sunshine.
We always need help setting the room up from 08:30 - 09:30 every Friday. There are kitchen tasks to be done and "Brew Buddies" where you help some of our less able visitors get drinks, snacks and lunch.
During the school holidays we always need extra pairs of hands to help with the activities we have on.
We'd love you to drop by and see what we do and ask us how you can get involved.
Casual volunteering is also an option you can rock up on the day and offer to help. We always have tasks that need doing even if it's just for an hour.
The most generous gift we can give another person is time. So pop in and have a brew and a natter with one of our visitors. You will make their day and you will feel better yourself for taking a little time out.
