Community Project
Greener Greenham Group
"Taking care of our local environment"
We are a small group of volunteers who have joined together to ‘green’ our local area. We enjoy what we do and you are very welcome to come and join us.
Our aims are:
• To ‘green’ our local environment by tree planting and improving the community outside spaces for people and wildlife. Trees, shrubs and plants provide habitat and food for wildlife, improve air quality, help reduce flooding and give shade.
· We hope to make a tiny difference in tackling the global environmental crisis by adding trees and plants to absorb CO2 from the atmosphere as well as a significant difference locally.
• To get to know our neighbours, make friends and work together to help improve and enhance the environment for everyone. Our activities benefit the mental and physical well-being of participants.
We have a website called Greener Greenham Group - https://www.greenergreenhamgroup.org.uk and a dedicated email - [email protected]
There is an ongoing maintenance programme for the trees and plants already introduced in open areas and a regular monthly working party on the first Saturday on the month - 1.30 to 3.30pm. Details can be found on our website under "Current Events".
The end result of the various activities will have a significant impact on the local residents, wildlife, and the environment and enhance the area in which people live as well as enhance the physical and mental well-being of both residents and participants.
We work together and have fun giving our time
Our Group plants trees, hedgerows and bulbs around Greenham, we organise community events such as Tree and Bulb planting and Litter Picking. Just lately we have been building nest boxes, maintaining a pond and planting some wildflower plant plugs - the start of a meadow
We tend a local flower bed, plant tubs and planters at Greenham Common Control Tower and outside the Greenham Community Hall.
We care for newly planted trees and plants by regular watering - a major requirement, especially during hot and dry spells
We have completed several projects 1. A phased project called 'The Streets Where We Live', 2. 'Greenham - Our Local Environment', 3. 'Nurturing Nature' and 4. Our current project ' Greenham Nature Corridor'.
We raise funds through grant applications – https://app.thegoodexchange.com/applicant/dashboard/projects
Who We Help – We help and work with the local people of Greenham who want to improve the local environment in a practical way
Why We Help – To make a difference, to see Greenham becoming “greener” both visually and environmentally
The Difference It Makes – More trees and hedgerows attract more wildlife and absorb more CO2. Spring bulbs, attractive borders and tubs and less litter makes our area more pleasant for us all. We meet people who appreciate the impact and benefit from the difference. We get to know our neighbours
Our Services Are Free
