Life Chance Trust
"We help young people affected by childhood trauma to become happy, healthy and resilient adults."
We are a specialist youth charity in the South West, working to transform the life chances of 16-25 year olds dealing with childhood trauma.
Our mission is to transform the life chances of these young people who have experienced childhood trauma, by building their confidence, resilience, motivations, skills and networks to realise their potential.
We are linked with Life Chance Education, School for Inspiring Talents which provides an education provision for children who have experienced trauma, offering therapeutic activities alongside their curriculum. Life Chance Trust then started in order to help these young people once they left education to continue supporting them.
We know that with the right support, childhood trauma can be addressed, and the challenges it creates can be overcome.
We don’t ask young people ‘what’s wrong with you?’ but instead ask ‘What happened to you?’ We acknowledge the past, but look to the future.
Every young person is unique: our approach is individual and responds to each young person’s needs and aspirations. We focus on each young person’s capabilities, strengths and assets.
Relationships are key: we trust and seek to support a sense of safety. We are hopeful, positive and we NEVER give up!
Through our mentoring plus offering, we will support young people in life skills, education, employment, confidence, money handling and more.
We are looking for Youth Advisors to join our board. This is for young people who are 16-25 that will work alongside our Board of Trustees to help shape our charity.
We are also looking for volunteers to become mentors. You would need to be relatable, approachable, reliable and demonstrate good listening skills. You would have an interest in helping people and wanting to make a difference. You would have the relevant training to feel confident to support these young people. You would also receive ongoing supervision.
Any fundraising for the charity would be extremely appreciated. This could be attending our community fundraising events, such as our Fundraising Runs. Or signing up to Teignbridge Lottery and choosing to support our cause.
If you can offer any of these then please do get in touch by visiting our website www.lifechancetrust.org.uk
