Esteem Team CIC
"We aim to enable, empower and equip the children/young people and families that we work with."
Some of the children/young people we work with only leave their family homes with an Esteem Team staff member and not any other time. As you can imagine, this means some of the children/young people are very isolated and since Covid-19, this struggle has become much worse.
As well as our other services, we also offer an alternative education setting for the children/young people who can not attend a main stream school due to their anxiety/who don’t have a specialist school placement available or who have no school that can meet their need.
We want to help the children and young people thrive in life not just exist. This could be through 1:1 sessions working on their self confidence, life skills, social skills, group skills or developing a talent they have with a trusted and supportive adult. We also offer our services within small social group too.
We have a premises in Exmouth which allows a safe and supportive place for children/young people we work with to come and have their sessions. We also have access to a meadow where we can carry out outdoor sessions in a safe and quiet place. We have a Community Garden to help children learn to grow foods and plants whilst having Mentoring and Coaching with their trusted adult and where we can hold Covid-19 safe parent/carer meet ups.
Esteem Team CIC work with children, young people and their families who struggle with their mental health and/or who have additional needs. We also support young carers and their families too. We aim to enable, empower and equip the children/young people we work with and offer many services which are tailored around each individual person/family. Many of the children/young people we work with are highly vulnerable so all of our services are designed with the child/young persons needs in mind.
Our services allow the child/young person to build a trusted relationship with one or more of our team and to help them find ways to manage their emotions, improve their mental health, improve their self confidence, improve their self esteem, transition them into a school or back into a school and more.
We also offer a free family support service and have 2 family support workers on the team. They support families to help them get the right support physically and financially. This could be through extensive form filling to get the appropriate diagnoses/funding/professional support or 1:1 parent/carer meetings or parent/carer group meet ups. We can also attend professional meetings such as TAF meetings, EHCP reviews, appeals and we will advocate for the family, child or young person when appropriate.
We offer other services such as Education Packages, Outdoor Education, Enabling, Life Skills, Cooking sessions, Mentoring, Coaching, Animal Therapy, Respite, Family Support, Young Carer support, Music sessions, Art sessions, Healthy Relationships, Cycling, Physical Activity, Community Garden Projects, Mindfulness, Advocacy, Water Sport sessions, Singing sessions, Dental assistance and more.
Esteem Team are an award winning service but as a not for profit company and we rely on grants and donations to help contribute towards the cost of our premises rent, equipment, resources and to be able to offer some of our services free to families, children and young people.
If you would like to make a donation to our company, please contact Kim on [email protected]. Thank you.
We sent out a parent carer survey recently using our Facebook page and in less than 24 hours we have had 102 responses. Here are the results:
83% said being a parent carer had affected their mental health
36.3 % said they felt they had no support at all (20.6% said they had received support from us! Esteem Team)
89.2% said it has affected their sleep
94.1% agreed/strongly agreed they wished there was more support/ understanding from professionals/wider community
86.3% feel isolated
79.5% feel unsupported
As you can see, the results are shocking. Esteem Team are working hard to change these statistics and to help families as much as we possibly can.
