Rochdale Mind

"We exist to ensure that people do not face mental health issues alone"

Who We Help, Why We Help & the Difference It Makes

We provide information and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health issue to improve and maintain their wellbeing. We campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding. We promote and protect good mental health and wellbeing for everyone in Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale, Bury and N.E. Lancashire.

We will not give up until everyone experiencing a mental health issue gets both support and respect.

We offer a wide range of services, sessions and activities, from arts & craft wellbeing sessions to advocacy and dementia support. All our services are reviewed regularly and designed to meet the wants and needs of our local community.

For access to our services you can self refer, or be referred by a supporting professional, anytime you feel you are experiencing mental distress and would like support. From there, we will contact you to attend a one-to-one welcome session. This is a relaxed, informal session to explain who we are, what we do, and which of our groups or activities could suit you.

What We Do

Drop in Sessions

The Listening Lounge

A safe, non-clinical support space where everyone aged 18+ can get support for their mental health and wellbeing outside of normal working hours. Both locations provide a free walk-in or referral service that is run by wellbeing workers and volunteers from Rochdale and District Mind, in partnership with local NHS services.

The Listening Lounge provides a safe, welcoming and therapeutic environment to support individuals who are experiencing emotional distress and in crisis.

The objectives for the service will be to:

  • Provide a space for those who are experiencing mental distress or feel they are in crisis but not acutely unwell.
  • Provide immediate short-term support outside of typical service opening hours.
  • Provide a safe and calm environment to support patients through the delivery of brief interventions.
  • Provide a meaningful alternative to hospital admission
  • Formulate a wellbeing personalised care plan.
  • Provide appropriate referral or signposting to existing services the following day.
  • Support access to and signpost to relevant provisions to manage social stressors.

Ways to get involved

Your expertise as someone with lived experience of mental health issues is important to us. We value your support and input in continuously improving our services.
We exist to ensure that people do not face mental health issues alone and can lead their lives free from stigma and discrimination.  Rochdale & District Mind work hard to ensure our services are of maximum benefit to those who use them.
Rochdale & District Mind believes that service users are the experts when it comes to mental health. Their knowledge and experiences are vital to us, helping us to improve our services so that we can provide the best support possible. We value the views of our service users greatly and want to continue involving service users in the future growth of our organisation.

Service User Forum

These quarterly meetings are open to all service users and give the opportunity for Rochdale & District Mind to discuss plans and proposed future activities with those who are going to benefit from them. The Service User Forum is a fantastic opportunity to share your ideas with us. To express an interest in attending please contact Alice Astley on 07766 140 904 by calling, texting or WhatsApp.

Volunteering

Many of our service users volunteer at Rochdale & District Mind, helping to support others through their own mental health recovery. Working in partnership with their Wellbeing Coordinators, some service users volunteer at fundraising events, others facilitate activities such as our social support groups and wellbeing activities.
