Who We Help, Why We Help & the Difference It Makes

We offer a range of activities across the city for older people to share their skills and knowledge and learn new ones in peer led, social groups, including gardening groups, furniture upcycling, exercise sessions, arts and crafts groups, computer calsses, book and film clubs and a social suport group for older LGBTQ+ people called Out in the City


 Small fees apply which contributes towards supplies for projects and activities. These may vary , depending on the activity. 

Sessions in Openshaw include:

Day Care 

Provides an opportunity for people to get out and meet new friends, with door to door transport, support that matches their needs, nutritious food and refreshments, stimulating and engaging activities and friendly relaxed company. Dare care also provides respire opportunity for carers and encourages greater independence.

CQC registered 'Good' Home care services helping people to remain independent in their own home with high quality care and support matched to their needs. Care is delivered in a consistent, friendly manner by trained DBS Checked staff

Scams Awareness and Advice

We offer information and support on scams prevention to people aged 50+ in Manchester. You can        also book a member of our scams team to give a talk in your community. If you have been targeted by a scammer, our team can provide a listening ear and support you. One to one scam advice sessions can be held in the comfort of your own home.

Information and Advice Service

Our expert advisors offer free information, advice and support specifically tailored to people aged 60 or over on a wide range of issues, including benefit entitlement and claims, accessing social care services, identifying housing options and difficulty with bill arrears.

A free service to help older people and carers of older people to explore and understand problems such as anxiety/stress, depression, bereavement, loneliness, self esteem, trauma/abuse and ill health

Volunteer

Do you love listening and talking? Would you like to support someone learning a new skill? Can you help give a vulnerable person a voice? If so, we want you to join our volunteering team.

There are many reasons why it's great to volunteer. It's an ideal way to give something back to your community and make a difference in people's lives. It can provide an opportunity to develop new skills or build on existing experience and knowledge. It's also a great way to meet others and spend time with people.

We could not function without our dedicated team of volunteers who help us deliver vital services to older people in Manchester. Whatever your talents and interests, we're bound to have a voluntary opportunity where you can you share your knowledge, make new friends and have fun! You'll also get the chance to learn new skills and gain important experience to add to your CV.

All our volunteers are offered full training and will get ongoing support and advice from our volunteer management team.

So if you have the time, no matter how little, there are many ways in which you can get involved.
