Sight Support Derbyshire
"To support blind and partially sighted adults and children in Derby and Derbyshire"
Sight Support Derbyshire works with people who are blind or partially sighted in Derby and Derbyshire and has been doing so for 110 years. We provide a range of support for everyone from children to the elderly. These include: Hospital Advice Service providing practical advice and a listening ear at the point of diagnosis; Information on aids, equipment and other support over the telephone, via email and in person through our Resource Centres in Derby and Chesterfield, our Pop Up Mobile Resource Centre which travels around Derbyshire and our Information Days; Low Vision Assessments to enable people to maximise the sight they do have; Rehabilitation training and support to maximise people’s independence; Social and Leisure activities enabling people to come together for mutual support, to try new activities and to address their social isolation; Befriending to tackle loneliness and isolation; and activities for children and young people. Our services provide people with a visual impairment with the practical knowledge and equipment to carry out everyday activities together with emotional and social support so that they can remain as independent as possible and lead more fulfilling lives. We can only continue to provide this support thanks to our 70 volunteers who so kindly give their time and our generous supporters.
If you, or someone you know, is affected by sight loss and you live in Derby or Derbyshire we are here to help. We run a range of services and support offering advice, information, practical help and wellbeing support.
